Savvy in SG

In light of Singapore being touted as the world’s most expensive city to live in in 2014, we’d like to say that while we do have pricier options (who doesn’t love the occasional splurge?), getting the best deals in our city is really all about knowing where to go. Here’s how you can do it in style.

Saveur

Eat
French diner Saveur started with the aim to make French fare accessible to people in Singapore – bravo! Helmed by two Singaporean chefs, the hawker stall in a coffee shop has since grown to two full-fledged restaurants in Purvis Street and Far East Plaza. With foie gras at just $9.90 and duck confit at $12.90, it’s no wonder the crowds are flocking.

The folks at Saveur are on a roll. Concetto by Saveur is their latest project. This new kid on the block at The Cathay offers affordable fine-dining Italian food. With dishes starting from as low as $5.90, these guys have their trifecta.

Moo Bar and Grill

Sharing is caring, and the folks at Moo Bar and Grill know this well. The Aussie-inspired diner tucked in a quiet area of the CBD has mains going at 1-for-1 all-day daily, and 2-for-1 Happy Hour deals on drinks from 11am – 8pm. We reckon there’s no better time than now to grab a bunch of friends and head down for a hearty dinner and drinks after work.

The Standing Sushi Bar made it to our list of cheapest tipples in Singapore, and for good reason. With daily promotions at their outlet on Queen Street and weeknight deals at Marina Bay Link Mall, this Japanese diner is a winner with its $5 beers and pocket-friendly sashimi etcetera.

Kombi Rocks

Kombi Rocks used to be Chinese diner Koon Kee Restaurant, and has since been revamped into a ride-and-dine (its fleet of vintage Kombi and Bugs parked right in front of the cafe are available for rent!) The menu offers local and Thai favourites, as well as bucket deals to quench that thirst. Dine in on Tuesdays for 50% off handmade Thai fishcake and prawn rolls.

Get sloshed
Boss BarBQ is taking it up a notch with a first-of-its-kind Korean liquid buffet from Wednesdays to Saturdays. Be transported to Korea while you enjoy a two-hour open bar of over ten fruity Korean cocktails, beers and their signature Soju Bombs (beer with a shot of soju) at just $28 for the ladies and $38 for the lads. It’s no secret the locals love their buffet spreads.

If you’re more of a bubbly kind of person, O Batignolles is the place you want to know. Known for their rosé champagnes, they have regular promotions on ladies’ nights for champagnes going at $10 a flute or $55 a bottle. Best part? Free bottles of bubbles are given to every group of four ladies from 7 to 9pm. Time to gather the gal pals!

Smith-Street-Taps-640x480Smith Street Taps

Have a not-so-usual dining experience with beers and your favourite hawker food at Smith Street Taps. This stall in Chinatown Complex food market offers craft beer (starting from $8) on tap. The owners keep things fresh with new craft beers every other week. If you’re looking for a no-frills kind of night, this is it.

Listen up ladies, you do not want to miss this. Club Kyo offers the girls free flow complimentary vodka cranberry on Thursday nights from 10pm through 2am. With your favourite hip hop and R&B hits adding to the perfect setup for a great night out, this club tucked in the basement of a tower right smack in the CBD will ensure your Thursday nights are never the same again.

Lime House, Singapore’s only Caribbean restaurant and bar, is a Honeycombers’ fave. We’ve hosted our parties here, plus one too many nights out (hic!). Lime House serves up mean wings and lobster cocktails, but what keeps us coming back is the awesome 3-for-1 rum punch on Wednesday nights. Yep that’s 3 for the price of 1! Bring the boys – this isn’t just exclusive to the ladies.
