When we heard the news that Tippling Club, had just been named the latest member of the Krug Ambassade, we were ecstatic. The combination of Krug champagne and food by the revolutionary Ryan Clift, all in the swanky interior of Tippling Club. We were so there.
For those who may not know, Krug Ambassade is a network of internationally acclaimed restaurants recognised for their dedication to supreme quality.
The Tippling Club joins JAAN and Stellar at 1-Altitude as just one of three restaurants in Singapore to be appointed to the House of Krug. On a larger scale The Tippling Club joins the ranks of the world’s best restaurants, including l’Assiette Champenoise in Champagne, Flocon de Sel in Mégève, l’Hôtel Georges V in Paris and Le Burgundy, Murano and The Fat Duck in London. It adds to countless other accolades, including titles of Asia’s 12th Best Restaurant in Miele Asian, 23rd in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014 and 45th Best Bar by The World’s 50 Best Bars 2013.
We were invited to celebrate this honour by sampling the six-course Krug Experience menu, designed by Chef-owner himself, Ryan Clift.
Each course was carefully paired with one of Krug’s finest, opening with snacks accompanied by Krug Grand Cuvée. While the flavours were undeniably spectacular, the plating was an absolute showstopper. The Kingfish (served with nori, avocado and sesame, paired with Krug 2000) resembled a winter landscape while the Snow Crab (paired with Krug 2003) defied convention with its accompaniment of liquid onion rings. The freshness of this particular dish made our taste buds dance along with the champagne.
Following this we were transported to Japan with the gorgeously marbled Cured Omi Wagyu served with Japanese burrata and horseradish. This dish is superbly paired with the Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003, one of Krug’s most beautiful champagnes.
Left: Snow Crab; Right: Strawberries and Cream 2014
Last, but definitely not least, to finish we were presented with Strawberries and Cream 2014 accompanied by a specially crafted Krug cocktail. This beautifully plated dessert reminded us of a classic British summer, with its bright pops of colour and plays on texture; a nod to Chef Clift’s British roots.
We were honoured at the meal to have the main wine maker from the House of Krug, Eric Lebel, speak to us and present. We adore that one of the main principles from the House of Krug is that their champagne, and life really, should be based on “pleasure beyond perfection”. We can honestly say that this Krug experience at Tippling Club has pleasure and perfection in abundance.
