Local readers would recognize Jesseca – having acted in Singapore TV milestone, The Champion (back when local idol dramas were all the rage), she’s practically a part of our childhood. This Langkawi-born lass is now the ambassador of Estetica, a homegrown spa group offering one of the most elaborate facials in town (their Signature Facial involves 32 steps!), so we jumped on the chance to scope out her beauty case.
What’s your daily skincare routine like?
I like to keep things simple, and this applies to my daily skincare routine as well. Every morning, I will cleanse, tone and moisturize my face – I believe this is the basic routine for most women. After which, I will apply Estetica’s ést.lab SunShield SPF50 because sunscreen is the basic building block of skincare, and it’s especially important for me during outdoor filming.
I don’t put on makeup when I’m not filming, as this allows my skin to breathe, and I believe it helps to improve my complexion in the long run.
At the end of the day, before applying my night cream, I will apply Estetica’s ést.lab VitaLift A+ Miracle Lift Serum, which is my secret anti-aging weapon. On top of that, I also use Estetica’s ést.lab VitaLift A+ Brillage Mask twice a week to hydrate and brighten my skin.
What products are in your make-up case?
Estetica’s ést.lab SunShield SPF50 is definitely the most important product in my make-up case. When I was a lot younger, I used to take the easy way out, thinking that doing the minimum is enough. But when I entered the entertainment industry, so many stylists and makeup artists were shocked that I’ve never put on sunscreen. They keep telling me the same thing: sunscreen is essential!
On many occasions, I have to be outdoors for filming and, unlike most sunscreens, the ést.lab SunShield SPF50 doesn’t leave a sticky or oily feeling after applying. Moreover, it can double up as a make up base, so my makeup stays on better as well!
Double eyelid sticker is a must everyday when I am filming or at a photoshoot as it will make my eyes look more alluring.
SK-II loose powder helps in evening out my skin tone and highlighting my face; this keeps me refreshed all day long. Eyeliner – I use one from Japanese brand KATE – which makes my eyes look bigger and brighter. It also covers up tiredness.
I also apply lip balm before makeup to keep my lips moisturized. Most of the lip balms these days have SPF in them and this will help to protect against the harmful rays of the sun as well. I’m not a fan of heavy makeup – I love colours that are natural on my lips. This lipstick from Korean brand Missha is very feminine and the formula is great for people who dislike re-applying makeup often. I alternate between Dior lipsticks and this.
I first caught a whiff of the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle EDP during my trip to Hong Kong with friends when I was 20. This has become one of my everyday essentials ever since. Using the fragrance reminds me of those happy times.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of beauty?
Paying for a very expensive beauty package and not utilizing it.
You must be a frequent flyer for work, and also because your family is in Langkawi! What are your beauty essentials when travelling? Any tips for our readers who travel frequently too?
It takes only a short while to fly from Singapore to Langkawi, and I’ll be at my destination after a short nap. During long flights, I’ll do some simple stretches from time to time to energize myself. They are very helpful in avoiding stiffness.
My skin tends to feel a little dry when I fly. This is when Estetica ést.lab VitaLift A+ Brillage Mask comes in useful. The sheet mask is made from nano bio-cellulose material, which firmly adheres to my face. It is packed full of moisturizing and anti-ageing goodness so I will look refreshed even after a long-haul flight.
One last thing I’ll definitely do is to take selfies. I love taking selfies; it’s a way for me to record the different phases and events in my life. The airplane is a great place for a selfie, especially if you sit by the window. The sunlight is the best form of lighting, as it makes your face look good and natural.
We heard that you co-own a couple of spas back home – how did you get involved in the beauty industry?
I was involved in the beauty industry since I was a kid – as a “guinea pig”!
My mum has always aspired to be a full-time beautician. Previously, she was running a café and taking her beautician’s course simultaneously. That period was really tough for her and placed a lot of stress on her mind and body. As a daughter, the only thing I could do was to volunteer myself for her facial practice.
I haven’t been excited about facials since the longest time after my experience, but I’m glad to rekindle my love for them again as Estetica’s new spokesperson.
