Missing the Monsoon

How many times have you planned out a trip only to remember Monsoon season as a dampening afterthought?  They call it low season for a reason, people! Here’s a handy little guide to inform your cost-benefit planning for travels in Southeast Asia.

You might be the sort of traveller to hit your destinations during the high season to avoid the monsoon (but we’ve sat indoors in our villa when it’s pouring in Bali and we can honestly say drinking and card games are not fun for more than a day). Or, you’re the type to brave the showers to avoid the crowd and get better room rates. We all know one.

We already suggested ideas for the 2015 long weekends bearing the Monsoon in mind. And here are also a few ideas we prepared earlier: check out the Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) during Chinese New Year, and catch some glorious sunshine in Lombok over the Labour Day weekend. National Day? We’ll be in Jakarta for a heavy dose of local designer shopping and pumping nightlife. Try heading up to Chiang Mai to indulge in cool weather and traditional Thai culture at the end of the year (this also allows time for the political climate to simmer down).

Hope this helps. Now it’s over to you:
