March 8 is International Women’s Day and it’s an occasion worth celebrating. Here’s the lowdown on how and where to celebrate the fairer sex, and more importantly, our continuous journey towards real equality.

Events
Wo Men Women
A clever play on the Mandarin term “wo men” (meaning we or us), the folks at Wo Men Women are holding a series of art exhibitions in various locations throughout the month of March. Check them out for an insight on how women from all walks of life see themselves as women today.

Wo Men Women, The Fullerton Hotel Lower Lobby, Artspace@222, and MoCA at Loewen.

All Fired Up!
Get all fired up at AWARE’s (Association of Women for Action and Research) trail-blazing day of solidarity at Hong Lim Park. Expect a festive atmosphere throughout the celebratory event (including a celebration toolkit workshop of inspiring speeches, art, music, and poetry), which is driven by the We Can! Singapore campaign. The campaign aims to transform underlying social attitudes and beliefs that tolerate violence against women, so make your way down on Saturday with a fire in your belly and turn it up with like-minded people!

All Fired Up!, Hong Lim Park, 8 March 2014, 4pm-8pm.

Lunch for a Cause
Running out of lunch options? Have lunch at J’s Restaurant on 10 March, where folks have teamed up with ONE (SINGAPORE) to celebrate International Women’s Day. You get to set the price of your lunch – just remember that every single cent out of your pocket goes to The Little Sister’s Fund to fund the educations of girls in Third World Countries (last year’s takings supported 8 girls in Nepal for a year!). So eat your fill and contribute what you heart will allow.

Lunch for a Cause, J’s Restaurant, 7 Purvis Street, #01-01, Singapore 188586, p. 6887 4787, 10 March 2014, 12pm, 1pm or 2pm.

Project Inspire 2014
Project Inspire is a joint initiative by the Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard to help young (18-35 year old) change makers create more opportunities for women and girls in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa by providing a 5-minute platform to pitch their idea to the world. This event also features a panel discussion regarding the question: Does supporting promising social enterprises hold the key to women’s empowerment? As if you need more reason to head down, but refreshments are provided by Chris’ Café.

Project Inspire 2014, The Hub, 113 Somerset Road, Singapore 238165, 13 March 2014, 7pm-9pm.
