Did You Know?

So you think you know your iPhone iOS7? Take the challenge to see if you know any of these 10 handy (but hidden) features. If you know of more, drop a comment to share them with us!

Set Siri Straight
Don’t let Siri get away with mucking up street addresses and gross mispronunciation of your friends’ names. Simply say ‘That’s not how you pronounce that’, and you’ll be directed through a brief tutorial session (takes less than a minute) where you can correct her pronunciation.

Call Me Never
It’s super easy, especially if you’ve updated to iOS7, to make sure you quit receiving unwanted calls from pesky insurance agents or nosy acquaintances.  All you gotta do is enter settings, scroll to phone, click blocked, and hit add new! Alternatively, access your call log, scroll till you identify your nuisance caller, click i (information) on the right side, and gladly select block this caller.

Remind Me Later
Did you know that besides setting your regular reminder, and indicating a specific time for the alert, you can make it a location-based reminder which activates when you enter or exit an indicated location (for example, your house)? All you gotta do is – after you have entered your reminder details – tap on the blue i (information) icon on the right and turn on remind me at a location. Select when I arrive or when I leave, enter your address of choice (you can adjust the circle on the map to make the reminder go off at a particular distance from the chosen location), and click done! Genius.

Savvy Shortcuts
Make your life easier by setting up text expansion shortcuts. Go to settings, click general, enter keyboard, and scroll down to add new shortcut. Besides creating handy shortcuts like brb -> be right back, ttyl -> talk to you later, thx -> thanks, it’ll do you good to think of useful ones like eml -> your email address, phn -> your phone number, and addr -> your address. Think back on your most commonly used phrases and add shortcuts for those.

Burst Mode
What have we been missing out on! iPhone’s nifty burst mode allows us to take multiple shots at once, by simply holding onto the up volume button. You can choose your favourite shot out of the lot, in terms of lighting and composition, and delete the rest. If you’re plugged in with your earphones, holding onto the up volume button on the remote works as well.

Mind Your Own Business
Not exactly a feature in your phone, but here’s how you no longer have to worry about nosy parkers peering at your phone. Get your hands on a privacy protector film, which works just like a regular screen protector but with the additional benefit of making the screen visible only to the user who is directly in front of the screen. The next time you’re on the bus or train, you won’t have to worry about the lady next to you looking at what you text your boyfriend!

Say No to Advertisements
Learn to take control over your privacy settings and fend off pesky targeted advertisements. Go to settings, click general, enter about, scroll all the way down to advertising, and turn on limit ad tracking. Browsing the Internet just got a load more peaceful.

Dizzy No More
As much as the parallax effect provides a cool 3D effect for others, folks with motion sickness have been suffering from the motion of the user interface, and can feel light-headed and nauseous after staring at the screen for too long. Get that sorted by simply going to settingsgeneralaccessibility, and turn on reduce motion.

Shake it like a Polaroid Picture
If you didn’t already know, the shake feature, which allows you to undo typing, has been around since the early days of the iPhone. But with iOS7, Apple has allowed the shake feature to undo archiving, deletion, and filing of emails as well. Accidentally deleted an email? No need to access the trash bin and restore your emails, simply give it a light shake, hit the undo option which pops up, and all is good.

Little Miss Forgetful
If you’re just like Little Miss Forgetful, you can consider letting iOS7 remember your passwords for you. Under settings, scroll to safari, select autofill, and you can choose to turn on contact info, names and passwords, credit cards, or all of them (if you dare)! You’ll never have to rack your brain (and waste time) filling up all your personal details, though that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to remember them either.
