When you think of Langkawi, you can’t help but think of big hotels, buffet breakfasts, and rows of identical hotel rooms facing a white sand beach. But we discovered a one-of-a-kind experience at Temple Tree (and neighbouring sister property Bon Ton Resort).
This resort has stunning heritage buildings sourced from all over Malaysia. Sure we’ve done our fair share of travelling, but we’ve seen nothing like this. The buildings are deconstructed and shipped to Langkawi, then reassembled using a numbered jigsaw puzzle approach (they literately number the walls, doors, and floors and then jigsaw place them back together). The result? A museum-like hotel experience, where every room is steeped in old world charm.
We were lucky enough to stay in a 2 bedroom quaint black and white house. It was perfect for our little family, as it had separate living and dining areas, a large wooden bathtub, and an outdoor porch just perfect for cocktails that were delivered as part of their happy hour (we likey)!
There are two other more than memorable elements to this unique accommodation experience: the food and the cats.
There are lots of cats at Temple Tree.; there we said it. If you like animals, you will love this place. If you don’t like cats, then this is not the place for you. Both Temple Tree and Bon Ton support a wonderful cause – Lassie, an animal shelter for abandoned dogs and cats – many that loll around the resorts. 
Finally the food. This is not to be missed! Some of the best food on the island is served at the Bon Ton restaurant – Nam (even if you don’t stay, you should come and eat here). And when you feel like a change, you won’t be disappointed with the restaurant at Straits Club (at Temple Tree), housed on a verandah on the main heritage building.
