Langkawi Travel Guide

White sandy beaches, rugged jungle-covered mountains, amazing resorts, and less than 2 hours from Singapore – Langkawi is a perfect weekend (or lazy week) getaway.

Langkawi Travel Tips

Eat
We have one rule when visiting Langkawi – eat at Nam Restaurant at Bon Ton Resort (foodies note, you might just want to check in here).  This is the most popular restaurant on the island and for good reason.  This charming restaurant set in a restored heritage building has an amazing East-meets-West menu.

The Loaf is a great little bakery and bistro in Telaga Harbour, perfect for divine breads and light meals (call ahead).

Mare Blue is another stunning restaurant with views of the harbourfront.  Grab a waterfront table and enjoy authentic Italian dishes, washed down with icy cold beers.

And the extremely popular Wan Thai is good for when you need a change of scene and flavours.

Do
We recommend doing… Absolutely nothing!  With beautiful beaches, clear blue skies (most of the time), and a refreshing breeze in the air, Langkawi is the perfect place to chillax.

If you do get a little stir-crazy, hire a car from the airport (on your way in) and explore the island – it’s very hard to get lost.  There is the Langkawi Cable Car for those who like a bird’s eye view, and aqua-venturers must explore Langkawi’s stunning waterfalls.  If you need more, get your jungle trek on at Langkawi Canopy Adventures.

If you are travelling with animal lovers, stop by Langkawi’s sole animal shelter, LASSie (these guys are doing some amazing work), or head to Underwater World Langkawi.

But if you are anything like us, pack your bikini, grab a book at the airport – and you are set for your trip!

Stay

There are plenty of great places to stay.  Choose from Bon Ton Resort  or Temple Tree Resort if you want to stay at a place with personality.  See our full review here.

Travelling as a couple? Check into The Datai.

Families should check out The Andaman, also positioned on the cliff front of Datai Bay. It has a children’s club which is great for toddlers to ten year olds.

The Four Seasons is  another great option, set on Tanjung Rhi, one of the island’s best beaches and has both a family and adult only pool (we like that!).

Thanks to our friends at AirAsia, Chris took the 1055am flight to Langkawi.
