Hot New Tables September 2016: New Restaurants in Singapore

It’s that time of the month when we get you hungry (don’t we always?) by shining the spotlight on some new restaurants in Singapore! Looking to loosen your tie and let your hair down with a big messy plate of BBQ back ribs or a massive, meaty sarnie? Or maybe you’re after something a little more adventurous like izakaya-style dining with a French twist, or perhaps even modern Indian street food? You’ll find all that and more in this month’s edition of Hot New Tables! We hope you’re starving.

Maziga

There’s a brand new Indian restaurant in town (pictured above), and this one is particularly passionate about Indian street food. Maziga, situated in the heart of Clarke Quay, is perfect for party-goers who want to fuel up with light bites, and perhaps a drink or two. Executive Chef, Javed Ahmed, has put together a stunning menu with highlights like crispy soft shell crab with tandoor smoked apple salad, a crispy masala pasta, and even oddities like the Punjab-inspired naan pizza and Amritsar fish & chips.

Maziga, 3C River Valley Road, The Cannery @ Clarke Quay #01-10 and #02-03, Singapore 179022. p. 6253 7307.

Want izakaya-style dining with a little French flair? This very narrow izakaya serves as a playground for Chef Jeremmy Chiam, who blends Japanese ingredients and French culinary styles to create unique izakaya dishes that are perfect for post-work bites. And particularly, the establishment prides itself on smoked meats and seafood, done traditionally over a binchō-tan (white charcoal) grill. Expect unconventional twists on classic dishes like foie gras, as well a bar bites like tripe with champignon mushrooms. Check out our full review here.

Le Binchotan, 115 Amoy Street #01-04 (Entrance via Gemmill Lane), Singapore 069935. p. 6221 6065.

Hungry Bazterdz

This humble sandwich joint serves more than just cold cuts and cheese on bread. Hungry Bazterdz takes its sandwich wizardry to new levels, at its first outlet smack in the middle of the CBD. Take a cheat day, skip the salad, and instead, chow down on hearty lunch offerings like the gravy drenched Grand Poobah or the Mighty Cheese Steak sandwich. And take cue from its crude moniker; you’re more than welcome to get down and dirty with your hands.

Hungry Bazterdz, 11 Collyer Quay, #01-06 The Arcade, Singapore 049317. p. 6816 3213. Open weekdays 7am-5.30pm, Sat 9am-3pm. Closed on Sun.

If it’s a slab of saucy barbecued ribs you’re after, make this your destination. Also newly opened along Sunset Lane, this temple of Americana offers favourites such as baby-back ribs, ribeye steaks and, for the spice fiends, buffalo wings (with three levels of spiciness).

The Catch Seafood Restaurant & Bar

Sate those seafood cravings with a trip down to The Catch, which has relocated from its old abode at Changi to the Western district of Sunset Lane. You’ll get to tuck into Chinese-style seafood dishes like the lala clams boiled with Chinese wine, mud crabs fried with black pepper sauce, braised noodle with seafood in XO sauce, and pan-fried Boston lobster. Want something a little out of the ordinary? Order the signature pig stomach soup, which involves sewing a black chicken within a pig’s stomach, much like a turducken. Vegetarians, be warned.
