Are TB's stores being forced to leave?

Nana and Bird at Tiong Bahru, Singapore

One of our top things to do on a Sunday morning in Singapore is to stroll around the achingly hip Tiong Bahru, sipping on coffee, shopping for trinkets and generally pretending that we’re cool enough to live there.

So the news that some of our favourite little businesses on and around Eng Hoon Street were reportedly being sent notices to vacate by the Urban Redevelopment Authority was a little worrying.

One of the businesses to be affected by the URA’s decision is said to be gorgeous independent fashion boutique Nana and Bird (we’ve called them a few times to get the skinny), while others apparently include Bloesem, Hui Aesthetics and a series of start-ups who are making the most of the cheap rent.

The ground floor units are part of the iconic ‘40s and ‘50s residential blocks, and the decision is said to be a result of complaints by those who live in the desirable neighbourhood.
