Brunching on a budget

cheap brunch in singapore lolas cafe

Brunch in Singapore doesn’t always have to be a luxury — just look at what we’ve gathered in the foodie guide below! Add this handy list of wonderful cafes and restaurants to your ever-growing collection of cheap eats and drinks in the city, and before you know it, you’ll be happily eating and drinking in style, even on a budget.

Old Hen Coffee Bar

Specialty coffee shop Old Hen takes their java offerings very seriously (one must-try is their signature cold brew), but their brunch treats – like the croque monsieur ($8) and the homemade waffles ($10) – are just as noteworthy.
Old Hen Coffee Bar, #01-03, 88 Rangoon Road, Singapore 218374, p. 6341 5458.

Lola’s Cafe

Crowds constantly flock to this suburban spot for the honey paprika crispy wings (they’re really, really popular), but we love their brunch creations just as much. Try the Farmhouse Brats ($10) – pork sausage with sweet bun and nacho cheese sauce – or the avocado eggs benedict ($15).
Lola’s Cafe, 5 Simon Road, Singapore 545893, p. 6284 0349.

Drury Lane

Hipster spot Drury Lane is a perennial favourite amongst brunch-goers. We love the fact that items like the big breakfast (a.k.a. ‘The Big 94’, $15), the rosti with truffle mayo ($14), and the Marmite Cheese Soldiers with soft boiled eggs are so affordable!
Drury Lane, 94 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088515, p. 6222 6698.

cheap brunch in singapore flock cafe

Find Instagram-worthy brunch creations at Flock Cafe

Flock Cafe

Expect honest, good food here at this family-run cafe. The banana French toast (comes with crispy bacon, $13.90) and the signature creamy scrambled eggs and toast ($7.50) are highly recommended.
Flock Cafe, #01-25, 78 Moh Guan Terrace, Singapore 162078, p. 6536 3938.

W39 Bistro & Bakery

One of the few cafes in the West Coast area, W39 specialises in European-inspired dishes. Tuck into favourites like the eggs Benedict with shredded braised lamb shank and mushrooms ($15). Prefer something with more local flavour? There’s the Nyonya mee siam ($9.50).
W39 Bistro & Bakery, 39 Jalan Mas Puteh, Singapore 128637, p. 9646 5372.

Penny University

This cosy little cafe on East Coast Road champions the “made in Singapore” concept. They source their coffee beans from local roasters, serve bread baked fresh daily in the area, and often collaborate with local bakers. Solid choices like the Turkish eggs and the smoked salmon bagel cost just $8.
Penny University, 402 East Coast Road, Singapore 428997, p. 6345 9055.

Virtually everything’s made from scratch here at SPRMRKT (short for supermarket). The weekend brunch menu consists of offerings like the homemade batter pancakes ($14), French toast ($10), yoghurt berries trifle ($10), and eggs Florentine ($14) – just to name a few.
SPRMRKT, 2 McCallum Street, Singapore 069043, p. 6221 2105.

Selfish Gene Cafe

Plenty of (pocket-friendly) stellar choices are on offer at Selfish Gene Cafe; order the Breakfast Plate ($15) for your “big breakfast fix”, or the Valerie ($12) if words like “toasted brioche”, “berry compote”, and “cream cheese” sound like heaven to you. We also find options like the mushroom tartine ($14) and the ricotta hotcakes ($13) to be extremely irresistible.

cheap brunch in singapore one man coffee

Wash down all that good stuff with an exceptional cup of java at One Man Coffee

One Man Coffee

The folks at One Man Coffee are experts when it comes to espresso so don’t forget to order yourself a round. Then, get creations like the Big Brekkie (which features two divine six-minute eggs and baby spinach with pesto, $12) to go with that drink order.
One Man Coffee, 215R Upper Thomson Road, Singapore 574349, p. 9658 1685.

Real Food

Vegetarian-friendly hangout Real Food has some great all-day breakfast bites that won’t make you feel the least bit guilty. Try items like the gluten and wheat-free strawberries and banana pancakes ($9.80), or opt for the Rise-n-Shine Breakfast (eggs, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, toast, grilled tomatoes, $9.80) if you need a bigger meal.
Real Food, Tai Wah Building, 110 Killiney Road, Singapore 239549, p. 6737 9516.

Food for Thought

Food for Thought’s offerings – like the gula Melaka granola ($10) and the slow roasted pulled pork burger ($9) – are excellent, but what we appreciate just as much is its location and ambience. Nothing beats enjoying a decadent meal amidst the lush greenery of the Singapore Botanic Gardens!
Food for Thought, #B1-00 Tanglin Gate, Singapore Botanic Gardens, 1 Cluny Road, Singapore 259569, p. 6338 4848.
