Five bars, five totally different vibes – and one crazy killer cocktail. Shoot the breeze and wind down at the coolest new bars in town; if we spot you there on a Monday night, let’s promise there won’t be any judging, aye?
Lime House
Lime House introduces “liming,” which means to hang in a casual atmosphere. This Caribbean concept of living from Trinidad and Tobago has finally hit Singapore and we couldn’t be more stoked – in fact, we’re throwing a party here! Fill up on Caribbean classics like Slipper Lobster Cocktail, Caribbean fish cakes, and Red Snapper Escovitch. These guys also have an dedicated rum bar and a rooftop bar slated to open later this year. If you’re looking for your next favourite killer cocktail, order a Bambo Duppy, which has three types of rum mixed with the usual tequila, vodka, and whisky. Good luck, brave souls.
Lime House, 2 Jiak Chuan Road, Singapore 089260.
Psst – we’re throwing a part at Lime House, the city’s next It spot to hang! Come celebrate with us!
The Jockey Club
The guys at The Jockey Club work hard for your enjoyment – this English Bar and Billiard room is open twenty hours a day. Score with their happy hour of Asahi drafts, freshen up with Midori Illusion, or sweeten the deal with their range of Bundeberg Sparklings. Think you’ve got what it takes to be the master of the table? Sign up for a Jockey Cup Snooker Tournament and be in the running for a 5-digit cash prize! Ladies and gents can also up their chances with coaching sessions available here.
The Jockey Club, Westway, 27 West Coast Highway, #02-03, Singapore 117867, p. 6777 8177. Open daily 10am-6am.
Amber Nectar
The name says it all – Amber Nectar loves everything to do with beer. Also, if you’re looking for a new place to catch soccer matches live, this is it. Entering the scene with local debuts of international favourites Hofbrau, Schlenkerla, and Abbaye, our new BFF (that’s beer friends forever, mind) is also one to look out for at Beer Fest 2013. Non-beer fans can cool off with wine or Amber Nectar’s creative spins on margaritas and cocktails.
Amber Nectar, 11 Unity Street, Robertson Walk, #01-10/11, Singapore 237995, p. 6737 3774, Mon-Thu 5pm-1am, Fri 5pm-2am, Sat-Sun 5pm-1pm.
Mariko’s
Take a trip to Japan in the 1950s and visit Mariko’s – a Japanese bar that lives to tell the tale of a scarlet woman who served GIs in Japan’s post-war era. Toe the line between defiance and obedience with their menu: traditional and contemporary stabs at ramen, tempura, and yakitori. Highlights include Sakedelic Passionfruit Liqueur (cold sake), Ichikio Mugi (sochu), Nikka Black whiskey, and our old pals Sapporo, Asahi, and Hitachino.
Tip: The Jiak Chuan street

The Beacon
Looking for a place away from town? Marina Square’s new resident is like a chip off the old block. This one’s just a stone’s throw away from the usual hot spots and serves up Italian food to go with our favourite tipples. Kick back on a plush sofa and catch John Molina and his band Kreuger live six times a week.
