Good news if the Hobbiton movie set from The Lord of the Rings trilogy is (still) on your bucket list.
Air New Zealand will be resuming daily service to the kiwi city (this route was closed in 2006 due to heavy losses), while Singapore Airlines is set to operate its Airbus A380 flights to New Zealand for the first time, as part of a new alliance between the two former rivals.
This partnership, recently approved by New Zealand’s transport authority, results in Air New Zealand taking over the five-a-week services by Singapore Airlines and adding two more flights. That means an estimated 100,000 extra seats a year and – fingers crossed! – cheaper air fares on the Singapore-Auckland route.
The alliance is expected to take effect by the end of the year.
