In a city of nearly 30,000 taxis, you’d think getting one would be a breeze – or at least not quite as painful as a trip to the dentist. Yeah, right. To help ease some of your common taxi woes (Long queues! Lost cabbies! Exorbitant fares!), we’ve rounded up five of the best taxi  booking apps that will, in one way or another, make your life a wee bit easier. Click to download.

ComfortDelGro Taxi Booking (free)
If there’s only space for one taxi app in your phone, this is it. ComfortDelGro’s booking app is typically reliable, even during rush hour or rainy days, though little hiccups (like failed bookings) are to be expected. It’s easy to use: you can bookmark up to 20 pick-up addresses and keep an eye on your driver’s route with a handy location tracking function.

GrabTaxi (free)
Access to over 10,000 cabs, a user-friendly interface, quick response time with fare estimates and real-time updates: this clever app definitely ticks all the right boxes. It also gets our vote for providing contact details of your cabbie for easy communication.

Easy Taxi (free)
With a fleet of over 6,000 vehicles, Easy Taxi is steadily catching up with its bigger competitors with its speedy service and fuss-free interface. But what really seals the deal for us is the fee waiver. That’s right – you won’t have to pay a single cent in booking charges. Sweet.

Split-it! (free)
It was only a matter of time before this happened: a taxi sharing cum networking app. For penny-pinchers or those who don’t want to ride solo, Split-it! seems like the perfect solution. It’ll hook you up with other passengers in nearby locations looking to travel the same route – and voila! A cab ride shared is a cab fare halved. Who knows? You might even make a new friend at the same time.

Uber (free)
When an ordinary taxi just won’t cut it, take an Uber. This personal chauffer service lets you ride in a swanky Mercedes or BMW, and will obviously cost you more. App-wise, it is definitely the most user-friendly in the market with a sleek interface, one-touch booking and cashless payment system that links directly to your credit card. Save this for special occasions when you want to rock up to your destination like a superstar.

Editor’s note: for a slighter cheaper option, check out Uber’s low-cost offshoot service, UberX!
