So, your man needs new threads, but he has a personality failure every time you set foot in a shopping mall. We suggest a two-pronged approach: limit his wardrobe choices by “accidently” throwing out all ratty t-shirts, ripped pairs of shorts, and Crocs not fit for public view – when everything’s in the wash and naked is the only option, he’ll soon get interested in entering the world of retail; then, plan a shopping itinerary with a get-in-and- get-out agenda. To that end, we can help: here’s a selection of menswear stores in Singapore where you can revamp the Mister’s wardrobe from head to toe, in handy, one-stop locations.
Swagger
Like its name suggests, this swanky lifestyle boutique on Ann Siang Road is all about putting the spring back in your man’s step. Swagger is a veritable treasure trove for discerning gentlemen (or women who want their men to be discerning), bringing together a selection of dapper threads, accessories, and grooming products. From preppy Soludos espadrilles to impeccably cut Raleigh Denim Workshop jeans, and Lotuff leather briefcases, everything you need to turn hubby to rad can be found here. Need your date to suit up for a formal do? Swagger also offers a made-to-measure service for suits and shirts, starting from $180 and $1,200 respectively.
Swagger, 15 Ann Siang Road, #01-01, Singapore 069695, p. 6223 5880. Open Mon-Sat 11am-830pm.
Paul Smith
Where do you go for casual-cool menswear with a distinctive dapper vibe to it? Paul Smith, of course! The British institution needs no introduction, as does the label’s signature multi-coloured stripes adorning everything from ties to socks, pocket squares, and underwear. This season’s collection is a fun one, comprising playful yet wearable pieces like palm-printed bomber jackets, chevron sweatshirts, and tuxedo jackets. Definitely one for the adventurous man.

Benjamin Barker
There are plenty of menswear stores around shelling out the same, heritage-inspired threads but Benjamin Barker is a cut above the rest. Founded in 2009, the concept store gets our vote for its unpretentious yet dapper collection of dress shirts, bespoke suits, custom-made leather brogues, and handsome accessories that even the ladies might be tempted by.

Benjamin Barker and Hackett London
Hackett London
The British really do know how to dress like gentlemen (although they are also known to misbehave). Now, thanks to Hackett London, maybe our men will finally get the memo. The luxury menswear label from London’s iconic Sloane Street has finally made it to our shores with a boutique spanning 2,500 square feet. As a purveyor of the best of British style, Hackett London features a range of formal wear and gentlemen’s club-style accessories, everything from tweed suits to enamel cufflinks, gingham bow ties, and boxer shorts. They do casual too!
Hackett, B2-230 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956.
Raoul
Raoul is a bona fide success story, having made its international debut at New York Fashion Week in 2010 to critical acclaim. Granted, all the fuss is centered on the local label’s women’s collection but the menswear range is worth checking out too. Clean cuts and sharp tailoring are what Raoul does best and you’ll find evidence of that in their range of quality dress shirts in a soft, muted palette.

sifr
We get it guys: you don’t want to part with your old rugby jerseys because they’re so comfy. Now how about a compromise? Local label sifr melds style and comfort perfectly with its range of breathable luxe Pima cotton t-shirts that are ultra-fine, silky, and lightweight. Not only that, the team behind sifr are serious about their craft, which is why you’ll easily find a pared-down, yet impeccably crafted collection of button-down shirts, blazers, and footwear for the everyday man. Did we mention the footwear? Love!

Blackbarrett
As on offshoot of designer Neil Barrett’s eponymous line, Blackbarrett’s vibe is distinctively edgy and street-inspired. But don’t let that turn you off: amidst the see-through mesh t-shirts (yes, really) and paisley suits, you’ll find surprisingly wearable pieces that’ll make stylish additions to any man’s closet. Our top picks? A tri-coloured crewneck sweater in graphic prints and a tailored blazer with stylin’ leather sleeves.
Blackbarrett, #02-17 Paragon, 290 Orchard Road, Singapore 238859, p. 6304 1345.
Robinsons Orchard
The recently opened department store is 186,000 square feet of prime shopping space with over 380 brands in-store – that’s a lot to choose. Level four is entirely dedicated to the gents with exclusive menswear labels such as our favourite Scotch & Soda, Jack Spade, Matinique, and John Varvatos that were previously unavailable in Singapore. The icing on the cake is Robinsons’ complimentary personal shopping service – wiser to leave the man-wrangling to the experts.
