Supermarket loaves just don’t cut it for you?  Here are our top spots for croissants, baguettes, and all things in between. 

Tiong Bahru Bakery
This one’s a no-brainer. Conceptualised by French master patisserie, Gontran Cherrier, who hails from a long line of artisanal bakers, and Spa Esprit Group, its fluffy baked treats have won over loyal fans within months of the opening of its first Eng Hoon Street branch. Cherrier has kept true to his roots and stands by the traditional techniques passed down through the generations, so you can be sure his range of sourdoughs, brioches, and wholemeal loaves are très authentic. His personal favourite? The miso rye bread.

Artisan Boulangerie Co.
Award-winning French baker, Eran Mayer uses flour imported directly from a traditional mill in Chartres, France, and the highest quality natural ingredients to make some of the finest gourmet pastries in town, all baked fresh daily in-house. We swear by his challah bread and baguettes, though it’ll be hard to resist the flaky, buttery croissants, too!

One of Robertson Quay’s perpetually bustling brunch spots, Anthesis prides itself on its freshly baked breads (12 types are prepared daily!). Order one of their sarnies or go for the breakfast platter, which offers a selection of breads complemented with three varieties of sweet and savoury spreads. If you’re a caffeine junkie like us, we bet you can’t get enough of the chocolate espresso loaf, too!

Freshly Baked by Le Bijoux
Helmed by owner and head baker Audrey Tan, this homely bakery on Killiney Road does mean, gourmet sandwiches, such as pulled pork, smoked salmon, and beef brisket with melted cheddar cheese, which are prepared withhomemade breads like focaccia, baguette, and ciabatta.

More than just a bakery, this Greenwood hotspot is also a gourmet food store, helmed by renowned baker Dean Brettschneider. He brings to the table 25 years of experience and a strong love for the perfect sourdough. Choose from a spread that includes whole-wheat farmhouse toast, olive bread, and fig and aniseed sourdough. Don’t forget to grab jars of their homemade chutneys and jams while you’re at it!

Maison Kayser
Known to weave exotic and sometimes, unusual flavors into traditional French recipes, Eric Kayser’s namesake bakery, famous for its use and invention of Fermentolevain, a machine that creates and maintains liquid leaven, rolls out a wide range of savory and sweet baked goods. Try their famed croissant, which has even been named as the best by Paris’s Figaro newspaper.

France’s largest chain bakery is great if you’re hankering for some country-style breads, like the pain croquet fruits and – obviously – the baguette Charlemagne, though there are a selection of dessert pastries to enjoy over a pot of tea or cuppa at one of their lush tea rooms. Takeaway service is available, too, for those who grab and go.

Bukit Timah’s new brunch hotspot, The Missing Pan, is big on baking with organic ingredients – perfect if you’re feeling health-conscious. Breads are made strictly no preservatives, additives, or flavorings and you can find their ‘selection of the day’ on the ground floor space. Head upstairs to the dining space on the second and third floor, where you can while your afternoon away with their specialty sourdoughs along with a range of vegan and diary-free loaves.

Simply Bread
Just a short walk down from The Missing Pan, Simply Bread is another great place to grab great loaves. A wonderland brimming with pastries, sliced breads, and large loaves, this quaint café puts out the good old ciabatta, sourdough, rye breads, plus some unusual creations like pesto, garlic, and green curry renditions.

The Bread Table
Opened by self-proclaimed bread lover and former engineer Joseph Lee, this heartland gem boasts a strong team of Le Cordon Bleu Australia-trained bread masters, who use traditional bread-making techniques and natural fermentation for their freshly baked creations. The must-try has to be the sourdough, with its thin caramelized crust and soft, chewy interior.
