Trust a beauty queen to really know her makeup – especially one as flawless as Rachel Kum. But rest assured, she’s not just a pretty face. After clinching the title of Miss Singapore Universe in 2009, the stunner traded her tiara and sash for CC creams and serums as the founder and director of her own skincare line, Rachel K Cosmetics. So what’s the secret to her glowing skin, you may ask? Read on to find out.
Hi Rachel! Let’s a take a peek inside your beauty case. What’s in it?
I keep a small makeup bag with all of my essentials like Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment as a moisturizer for my lips – I love how it also heal cuts, cracked skin, and insect bites instantly. I also can’t live without Rachel K CC Renew Cream – because it acts as my moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock all in one – and H20spray Hydrate Natural Spring Water face mist by ClaySpray, which moisturizes my skin and fixes my makeup instantly.
My other must-haves are Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Sepia Ink, Sleek Makeup blush and Rachel K Lip Plumper in Suggestive for a touch of color and to plump up my lips.
Which beauty products do you absolutely swear by?
Rachel K CC Pressed Powder because it glides on smoothly and is very lightweight. It’s an absolute godsend in this humidity because it gives me a nice soft and matte look with hardly any touch ups needed. Another favourite of mine is Laneige Water Sleeping Pack: it’s great to use a few times a week to restore moisture to my skin.
Okay, we MUST know: what’s the secret to your flawless complexion?
No secret, I’m just fastidious about my skincare regime. I always give my skin a deep cleansing, followed by an antiseptic toner and a hydrating moisturiser. I also drink at least two to three liters of water a day and I religiously apply my CC Cream with SPF 35.

The big doughnut bun is the easiest hairstyle to look instantly glamorous.
What made you decide to start up your own makeup line?
I’m always on the lookout for beauty products, which are convenient to use and can quickly give me radiant, healthy-looking skin. But there weren’t any brands that were suitable for my skin type so I started to develop a product for my personal use – the CC Cream.
That gave me the idea to start Rachel K Cosmetics. I wanted to be the first brand to come up with a CC cream and introduce it into the market long before major beauty companies like Chanel, Lancome, L’Oreal, and Clinique caught on.
Have you always been this glamorous, even when growing up?
Sadly, no! I was actually a tomboy in my tweens. I loved playing computer games (still do, actually!) and wore baggy pants all the time. I was introduced to beauty and makeup when I was 14 years old and have not looked back since.
Thanks Rachel!
