If you prefer your sharks minding their own business in the ocean, than floating in your bowl of soup, today is a great and momentous day.

Marina Bay Sands has announced that shark fin dishes will no longer be available on their menus; a move that has been commended by the World Wildlife Fund of Singapore.

And just in case you’re wondering what the big deal is, shark fin dishes have been popular since the 18th and 19th century in Chinese culture. A symbol of wealth, respect and appreciation to guests, shark’s fin soup is an extremely essential dish when it comes to special occasions such as Chinese weddings.

Besides sharks, other sea creatures will also heave a sigh of relief, as seafood served at MBS MICE events will now be sourced from suppliers certified for sustainable wild-capture of seafood. Can we just say, we approve!

And with MBS going even further and offering a Green Harvest Menu that includes locally sourced ingredients to cut down on food miles, this week belongs to you environmentally conscious folks.

As MBS gears even more towards being a sustainable corporation, environmental enthusiasts can now enjoy the view of the ocean from the top, with a greater peace of mind. But perhaps the greatest beneficiary of all, is the one who will now continue to enjoy its view from the seabed.
