This week’s news in a nutshell:
- Beyond the cross-dressing, distracting facial hair, and anti-fans who wrote her off as a gimmick, Conchita Wurst (the persona created by Austrian singer Tom Neuwirth) emerged victorious at Eurovision 2014. Dedicating the win to ‘everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom’; check out her winning song Rise like a Phoenix, you’ll be impressed!
bn - X-Men Days of Future Past stars Hugh Jackman, Fan Bingbing, and Peter Dinklage swung by Singapore for the movie’s recent South-east Asian premiere. We don’t know what’s more adorable – Hugh Jackman Instagram-ing about Singapore-style breakfast at Ya Kun or the stars taking selfies with their fans!
bn - It really breaks our hearts to hear that a fourth bottleneck dolphin has died at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). No surprise that this news has sparked renewed uproar amongst animal lovers and Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES). An on-going petition to free the bottlenose dolphins at RWS has garnered over 100,000 signatures!
bn - Wait a minute, there’s no new National Day song this year? Organisers of the annual National Day Parade (NDP) have just announced that, for the first time in 16 years, there will be no new NDP song. We’ll just have to stick to singing Stand Up For Singapore and Home, bummer.
bn - Calling all Harry Potter groupies! The first look at Universal Studio Florida’s Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts Bank Ride has been released – hurray! Not forgetting three other rides, Dragon Challenge, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, and Flight of the Hippogriff, Hogsmeade Shopping Village, and a reconstructed Diagon Alley – the theme park looks set to thrill!
