Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey – and composed entirely on guitar, the first GREASE Broadway production premiered in 1972, featuring a then young and unknown Richard Gere as Danny Zuko. The hit movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John followed, becoming the highest grossing movie-musical of all time. So, you’re probably familiar with the plot?
Set in and around the fictitious Rydell High, GREASE revolves around 10 working-class teenagers and their experience of the complexities of love, friendship and rebellion. Expect a healthy dose of adolescent angst, 1950s American pop culture, and of course, a love story (between bad boy Danny and girl-next-door Sandy) that never gets old.
