Without a doubt, Earth Hour 2014 was an unprecedented success. After all, we met Andrew Garfield in the flesh – score!

Granted, it was only for a fleeting moment but this was one milestone event that we won’t forget in a hurry. After all, where else would you find a certain web-slinging superhero, Hollywood’s hottest stars, and over 9,000 screaming fans together for the world’s biggest environmental movement? Earth Hour, that’s where.

The milestone event, which took place at The Float@Marina Bay last Saturday, culminated in the Lights Off event, where over 60 buildings across Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay skyline were switched off for one hour. Bringing his super spidey senses to the celebrations was Earth Hour’s global super hero ambassador Spider-Man, as well as the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and director Marc Webb (cue fan girl screams – yup, that’d be us).

Since its inception in 2007, Earth Hour has grown into a global phenomenon with millions of participants from over 7,000 cities in over 160 different countries. In Singapore, 350 organisations and properties, such as NTUC Fairprice, Royal Plaza on Scotts, and PARKROYAL on Pickering joined in on the green movement.

This year’s symbolic switch-off also saw iconic landmarks across globe such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and Red Square in Moscow, taking part by switching off during Earth Hour.

We’ll admit: getting Spider-Man as its superhero ambassador was pretty damn cool. But how about the Avengers for next year’s Earth Hour? Now that would be awesome.
