With guilt-free furniture shopping made possible by stocking eco-friendly, fair trade furniture lines, it’s no wonder Journey East is a mainstay on our list of go-to furniture stores.

These guys definitely know how to tick all the right boxes: they’ve got eco-friendly home accessories and furniture, restored and upcycled vintage pieces, great service, and a massive 8600 sq. ft. showroom that also houses a resident cat for kids to befriend.

Vintage collection

What first began as a collection of Dutch Colonial and Javanese vintage pieces has since expanded to include eco-friendly designer furniture, reclaimed teak wood furniture, as well as premium Belgian outdoor pieces for the garden and patio. They also now offer paintings, jewellery, and lighting from around the world, including France, Belgium, and Japan.

d-Bodhi Carbon collection (recycled boat wood)

And here’s a philosophy we can get behind: Journey East aims to increase environmental awareness and encourage furniture hunters to consider recycled timeless pieces instead of buying newly manufactured furniture made from young harvested trees.

What we especially admire is their commitment to working with partners who share their ethos. Their five anchoring furniture collections may span a range of styles, but they all attempt to reduce their carbon footprint through fair trade and eco-friendly trade practices like 100% handmade construction.

d-Bodhi Fissure collection (recycled teak)

The collections include one of our faves, the award-winning d-Bodhi, which refashions reclaimed teak and refurbished galvanized iron pipes into contemporary pieces. There’s also XLBoom, a modern contemporary Belgian brand that works with award-winning UK and Belgian designers to produce fun but functional furniture and accessories. Vintage hunters (ahem, us) will love the vintage collection here; it’s all hand-restored, original, refurbished teak pieces from the 1920s-60s.

Outfitting your garden and in need of lasting outdoor furniture? Check out Mamagreen, an outdoor luxury Belgian line that uses FSC recycled teak, stainless steel, and durable Sunbrella® fabrics. And if you appreciate global eclecticism, you’ll want to check out Ke’liling, which has everything from hand-crafted Japanese jewellery and French paintings to vintage colonial lamps.

Just try to leave without going home with something new – it’s a tough one!
Psst – they’re having 20% off furniture storewide so strike while it’s on!
