Something’s been making waves in Bali, and it’s not the Indo swell. It’s 13-year old Sonny and his mates, hell bent on banning plastic bags from their island home.

What’s happening
13-year-old Sonny Perrussel and friends call Bali home and are not planning to stand by while their beloved beaches are ruined. They plan to get rid of stinking piles of rubbish on Bali’s popular beaches (like Ulus, Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu), and make sure surfers don’t get assaulted by stray diapers or used syringes – no way man!

Bali’s governor, I Made Mangku Pastika, has agreed to ban the use, sale and production of plastic bags if the boys’ online petition, Bye-Bye Plastic Bags on Bali, hits one million signatures. The current count stands at 47,702 – so here’s what YOU can do.
