Gone are the days of checking the mailbox for that long awaited love letter. With our super speedy smartphones, there really is no excuse to rest on our laurels when it comes to keeping things fresh relationship-wise. Especially for couples in long-distance relationships. We take a look at some of the apps giving Skype a run for its money.

couple.app.1
Couple

With Couple, it’s all about saving every moment. It allows users to save their photos in a shared gallery, play sketch with their partners, and create to-do lists together. But our favourite’s gotta be its Thumbkiss feature – match your thumbs on the screen to get thumbkissed. That’s bound to make two people feel that much closer, no matter the distance. If you’re looking for something fuss-free, straightforward and functional, this is the app for you.

avocado app
Avocado

Very similar to Couple, Avocado has chat, sketch, shared gallery and to-do list features. Hold the phone to your chest to send virtual hugs. As cheesy as that might sound, this novel way of sending some love got us all fuzzy inside. Another special feature that had us in stitches – Avocado allows users to create their own emoticons with pictures of their faces. Like they say, a picture says a thousand words.

The Ice Break mixes things up with quizzes and fun projects for users and their significant others. Based on the principles of affection, communication and excitement, The Ice Break curates questions and assignments for both parties to help them understand each other better. With something new to do everyday, this app will be keeping you two on your toes.

apps for couples between app
Between

Create a profile for you and your sweetheart with Between’s user-friendly interface. We like its countdown feature that will ensure you and your partner will never miss an important upcoming occasion again (oh the horror.) We’re not too sure about its location feature though – it seems to be bordering on stalking to be keeping track of your other half’s whereabouts all the time.

Ready to take things up a notch? Kahnoodle reminded us of The 5 Love Languages, a popular book by Gary Chapman that highlights the five ways individuals usually express and experience love. Users are asked to rank their ‘love languages’ such as ‘quality time’ and ‘verbal praise’ and partners are given the “kudos!” when they perform acts relevant to these preferences. With ‘koupons’ to be redeemed, a ‘love tank’ to be filled and push notification reminders to do nice things for your spouse, this app is an entire game in itself.

Goodboy is putting it out there for everyone. Promising “husband training” for the ladies and “an insight into the female mind” for the lads, this tongue-in-cheek app is styled like a reality game based on some familiar gender stereotypes. Let your man earn Goodbucks when he performs tasks to your satisfaction, all in the name of good fun of course!
