It’s the ultimate battle between Godzilla and King Kong. The sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island sees the much-awaited crossover of the monsters. 3. The Father (15 April)

Genre: Drama

The Father follows the realities of aging as 80-year-old Anthony struggles to come to terms with his old age. He even turns down aids provided by his daughter Anne. It seems as though his memory is deteriorating too… or is his daughter plotting something against him? Critics are calling this movie one of Anthony Hopkins’ and Olivia Colman’s best yet, with many award nominations in its kitty too.

4. Judas And The Black Messiah (8 April)

Genre: Biographical drama

After taking up a plea deal with the FBI, William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield) is tasked to keep an eye on Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya), the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party in 60s Chicago. The timely and gripping film is already receiving Oscar buzz, fresh off Kaluuya’s Golden Globe Awards win for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.

5. The Mauritanian (8 April)

Genre: Drama

Based on the NY Times best-selling memoir Guantánamo Diary, this true story follows Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s (played by Tahar Rahim) journey for freedom after being imprisoned without charge by the US government. Who’s ready for a throwback? After two decades in the making, the countdown officially begins for the Mortal Kombat reboot. Watch fictional characters like Jax, Raiden, Mileena, and Liu Kang as well as Bi-Han, the first Sub-Zero, come to life. And let’s hope that this one’s better than the 1997 dud. Yes, we said what we said.

7. A Quiet Place: Part 2 (22 April)

Genre: Horror/Thriller

Putting a spotlight on sensory deprivation horror flicks, A Quiet Place is back with its chillingly silent sequel. Following the *spoiler alert* death of John Krasinski’s character, the Abbott family tries to find a safe spot without crossing paths with the blind spider-like monsters that have hypersensitive hearing. The plot twist? It doesn’t really help that Emily Blunt has a crying toddler in tow. If it’s anything like the first film, you’ll be on the edge of your seat; or, perhaps you’ll quieten down as you see the plot unfold.

8. Black Widow (29 April)

Genre: Action/Adventure

We meet her mother, father and sister figures played by Rachel Weisz, David Harbour and Florence Pugh respectively.

9. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (27 May)

Genre: Horror

The sequel to the previous The Conjuring movies, this installment is based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a murder trial that took place in 1981 in Connecticut. The case apparently shocked real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, and is touted as one of the most sensational ones from their files. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise the role of the infamous duo.

10. Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga (27 May)

This time, trouble ensues among the precious familia as Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) locks horns with his younger brother Jakob (played by John Cena, say what?), a deadly assassin who is working with an old enemy, Cipher.

11. Cruella (3 June)

Genre: Drama/Comedy

Two words: Emma Stone. Watch her breathe life to the popular Disney villain Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians. The life-action prequel follows a young Cruella de Vil as the fashion designer becomes obsessed with dogs’ fur. From the looks of the trailer, we say Stone has definitely knocked it out of the park.

Keep in mind these guidelines before watching your fave upcoming movies in Singapore…

To avoid the risk of transmission, all cinemas will conduct temperature screenings, check in and out procedures using SafeEntry, and regular cleaning and disinfecting of high touch point areas and between movies. They’ll also include alternate seating options and safe distancing queue markers. Hurray for personal space! A maximum capacity of 50 people is allowed in each cinema hall with a one-metre distancing requirement. Family and friends of up to five people may sit together without the one-metre rule. And of course, you gotta wear a mask at all times, including inside the cinema hall.
