We’re not huge fans of falsies, but we can’t help but agree that long, flirty eyelashes have a somewhat critical role in our party gear. So if the lashes are exasperatingly stubby and unruly, it’s not to late to do something about your flutterers to make sure your peepers are on point, especially if you’re going home (or anywhere but Singapore) for the festivities.
Eyelash Extensions
They might come with a heftier price tag (anywhere from $100-$200 for a full set), as opposed to falsies. After all, the extensions are attached strand by strand to a single eyelash at a time, so you get lush lashes 24/7 for at least 2 weeks without looking ridiculous. This awesome beauty procedure is a must-try (and you have the perfect excuse to splurge). In fact, these eye enhancers are so great that you’ll feel like you need less makeup.
Try: Lolita (ask for Shu Xian at Marina Link) or Graceous
Eyelash Perming
Call it an optical illusion, but curled, upturned lashes do look longer than straight ones. It might help you fake a wide-eyed doe look too. The procedure is similar to hair perming, rollers and all, but it can be done in under an hour. The kink in your eye lashes will last anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months, depending on the life cycle of your lashes. That ain’t bad for 70 bucks.
Try: High Brow or Poly Beauty
Best Falsies
There are many different types of falsies, but they generally can be broken down to: the strip (the most common), the individual lashes, and the fancy (great for fancy dress parties). When putting on the strip falsies, it’s best to see exactly where it’s going, so stretch your eyelid up while tilting your head at a 45-degree angle. Look down and start sticking from the outside of your eye and work your way in.
Individual lashes are actually more difficult to handle, and you’ll need to have a pair tweezers with flat tips at the ready. They’re great if you want natural, fluttery lashes – placing the single bunches in a triangular shape so that they layer over one another.
Try: Shu Uemura or Ardell (available at Watson’s)
Best Eyelash Glue
If you buy cheap fake lashes (the sort that come in a box of 10) from Far East Plaza, chances are they don’t come with the lash glue. Though most of the time, the adhesive that comes with the falsies isn’t fantastic either; so in order to prevent them from peeling off when you’re shimmying away on the dance floor, investing in good eyelash glue is a must.
Try: Duo Eyelash Adhesive or Ardell LashGrip Eyelash Adhesive
Best Mascara
Mascara, how do we live without thee? If you don’t want to be hassled by falsies and eyelash adhesive, a tube of excellent mascara (which actually does its job) is your best bet at glamming up those lashes for par-tay time!
For volume, try: Hypnose Star 24H Waterproof Show-Stopping Volume Mascara or L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black
For length, try: Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara or Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara
Best Eyelash Curler
Remember what we said about the optical illusion? If you’re not a fan of eyelash perms, a quality eyelash curler is something you definitely need in your makeup stash. They come in the metal-clamp types (awesome for medium-length to long lashes) or the heated version, which is good for short and stubborn lashes.
For the classic curler, try: Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler or Tweezerman Precision Eyelash Curler
For the heated option, try: Model Co Turbo Lash Wand Heated Eyelash Curler or Eylure Heated Eyelash Curlers
