Valentine’s Day is the most romantic time of the year. What better way to celebrate romance than with real-life love stories? Whether you’re a cynic who’s sworn off relationships or a true blue believer in The One, these touching tales will no doubt warm your heart. And if you’re on the lookout for that perfect gift, we’ve got beautiful Valentine’s Day pieces from Lee Hwa Jewellery to recommend.

The couple fated to be together: Dorothy and Damian

It was serendipity that brought Dorothy and Damian Kinsella together at an Australian hostel in 2010. She was on a university break, he was travelling on his gap year. Neither knew that going on a pub crawl would be one of the best decisions of their lives. Just one night of drinks and deep conversation left an impression on their hearts, and they built a friendship on months of long-distance texts and lengthy emails.

Fast forward to present day, and the couple are happily married with a beautiful baby girl. Since their meeting was the perfect timing, they celebrate that day as their wedding anniversary! They struggled through a miscarriage once, but it’s the little things that keep their love going. Like Damian says, “It’s how you come through them and build on that; and you come out of any challenge stronger.” Now pregnant with their second child, they’re already excited for this next chapter.

Valentine’s Day jewellery pick: Destinée The One Collection. Swans are one of the most monogamous animals in the world – they stay with their one and only for always and forever! That’s why they symbolise love, loyalty and trust. Featuring the graceful animals with their foreheads gently touching, forming a subtle shape of a heart, the collection consists of a necklace, stacking rings, bracelet and earrings. These rare and natural diamonds feature eight symmetrical hearts and arrows – an exquisite gift for everlasting love.

The couple who holds on to hope (and each other): Sarah and Mark

This teenage tale of love started with a gig where the couple was performing. Sarah and Mark De Winne said their vows when they were just 18 and 21 due to an unexpected pregnancy. Fifteen years later, they have two lovely children and support each other as they pursue their dreams in music and design. Mark talks about Sarah’s role in making him a better person, while Sarah loves how present and involved Mark is with the children.

“We have the power to make it better together… as long as we’re united,” Sarah explains. That’s what helped them through a year of long-distance marriage when Mark did his masters overseas. And what strengthened them was the loss of their child, Nadia (which means hope), when Sarah was 27 weeks pregnant. “It was very painful, but in that pain you find something much deeper together and you support each other through that,” Mark says. Commemorating how commitment helped them overcome such challenges, Sarah penned a song called WYTK in 2020. Both agree they’re grateful to be on this journey together – they’re each other’s perfect one!

Valentine’s Day jewellery pick: Swing Star Lover Heart Collection. Influenced by the finger heart gesture made famous by K-pop, this unique design is a fun way of showing your affection for your partner. The diamond swings freely in an infinity loop and will pulsate with her every movement, a symbol of never-ending love. No matter if your relationship has been through dramatic life-changing experiences, or you still give each other butterflies, the pendant and earrings are a sweet and subtle way of saying, ‘I love you.’

The couple who stays strong through thick and thin: Danielle and Allan

Starting out as friends, Danielle Fong and Allan Sun were introduced at a casual dinner by a mutual buddy in Hong Kong. After long-distance dating, they got married and had a daughter, but separated seven years later. Luckily, the time apart only lasted nine months and they started afresh for their child. “Those rough patches made us understand each other more, that we can be very different and disagree on so many things but still have a bond together,” Danielle reflects.

The pair later welcomed a son into their family and have been through countless rollercoaster rides across nearly two decades together. “He enjoys my company and I appreciate the fact that he is always there for me no matter what,” she explains. If you need proof you can keep the love alive in everyday routine, Danielle says, “Our date nights these days are spent in 24-hour supermarkets after our kids go to bed!”
