The Singapore River district may be lined with watering holes and clubs but it isn’t always just about booze and wild parties in this part of town. With a dash of festive flavour and sprinkle of yuletide magic, Clarke Quay, Robertson Quay, and Boat Quay will transform into a waterfront fiesta, complete with angelic carollers, Christmas troopers, and a Christkindlmarkt.
Christmas isn’t Christmas without its carols. Be serenaded by the melodic vocals of local choirs from Victoria Junior College, Anderson Junior College, and Victoria Chorale. These youthful songbirds will be spreading the holiday spirit every Friday and Saturday from 15 Nov to 15 Dec, with their rendition of classic Christmas noels and familiar sing-along favourites. Check the schedule of their performances here.
On top of soothing ear worms, prepare for a visual treat as roving Christmas troopers will be combing the three quays every Friday and Saturday as well. Don’t hesitate to have a chat with the chummy bunch and snap a picture with them for memento (no charge!).
Barely making headway on your Christmas shopping list? Venture through the traditional outdoor Christmas market (open 15 Nov-15 Dec) stretching along the river, and you’re sure to discover some incredible gift ideas. Check out festive holiday wares, browse through handcrafted ornaments, and sample gourmet grub while you’re at it!
Who needs a reason to shop really? But we’ll throw in one for kicks. From 15 Nov to 22 Dec, the first 50 Visa cardholders who charge a minimum of $50 to their cards stand to be rewarded with treats like Casio digital cameras, hotel stays at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel and Swissôtel Merchant Court, as well as dining and shopping vouchers.
So why stay holed up at home this festive season? Take your celebrations to the great outdoors and embrace a merry Christmas by the River!
