We admit, we love the occasional junk food treat, and with this list, you’d best believe that fried chicken indulgences will be a lot more than “once in a while”!
Ah Tan Wings
Available for takeaway and delivery on Foodpanda, GrabFood and Deliveroo.
If you’re on the hunt for superb prawn paste fried chicken, Ah Tan Wings makes the cut. Before opening his first stall in Yishun, owner Tan Wee Yang, one of the handful of young Gen-Y hawkers, made his mark on the pop-up circuit with his crisp-on-the-outside and fall-off-the-bone tender chicken wings. Make it a meal by pairing the wings with rice and a sunny-side-up egg.

Oven and Fried Chicken
Don’t get confused when you see “rice chicken” on the menu. It actually refers to the chicken pieces being fried with rice flour for a decadent, extra crispy crust. While you can simply dip the chicken into the sauce, a popular option is to have the chicken pre-coated with the spicy, jambalaya, soy or padi garlic sauces. A lazy eater? Get the boneless version!

Available for islandwide delivery; order (minimum $30) at least one day in advance. WhatsApp, call or message +65 8896 5136 (you can also place orders for Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Founder Bak Kut Teh via the same number).

The Beast Southern Kitchen + Bourbon Bar

Closed temporarily until 4 May.
We’re glad that chicken and waffles – a standard Southern American dish – is popular right here in Singapore. Order the cornbread, country-fried steak and house signature of juicy fried chicken served atop thick waffles drizzled with bourbon maple syrup. Our suggestion? Pair your feast with a glass of bourbon – after all, the bar stocks some of the city’s biggest varieties of the liquor – or a sweet tea cocktail for an authentic Southern experience.

Mom’s Touch
Order online for islandwide delivery; minimum order $50.
It’s safe to say that the Korean wave has taken over the fried chicken scene in Singapore. Another popular establishment from the Land of the Morning Calm has set up shop in Singapore: Mom’s Touch. As the moniker suggests, the chicken here is hand-battered and hand-breaded, just like how mothers would lovingly prepare a meal for the fam. The result? Crispy and juicy birds, minus the grease. It’s worth mentioning that the spot is tiny, so be prepared to wait for your food.
Mom’s Touch, #01-37, Paya Lebar Quarter, 10 Paya Lebar Road, Singapore 409057

A stellar nasi lemak is made up of aromatic rice, spicy chilli and… fried chicken, of course! It’s safe to say Ponggol Nasi Lemak has mastered all of the components, including the amazingly crispy bird. Just a word of caution, be prepared to suffer the carb food coma from all that rice afterwards.

Move aside, KFC, this under-the-radar homegrown halal joint should be your first choice for a fuss-free meal of fried chicken. The skin is crispy, the spices pack a punch and it all comes with old-fashioned soft buns and mash. With just a couple of outlets across Singapore, Arnold’s is perhaps one of the best underrated fried chicken joints in town.

Chir Chir

Order online for islandwide delivery, minimum order $30, with $8-$12 delivery fee. Get 10% off takeaway orders $50 and above. You can cross-order with Masizzim and Nipong Naepong too.
The main star of this Korean fried chicken joint has to be the Nest Snow. This dish is served in a pool of creamy, rich sauce, and the chicken tenders are piled over a sweet coleslaw-like salad. The oddest addition is a dollop of whipped cream on top, but we salute its audacity! Of course, if all that is too edgy for your traditionalist sensibilities, you can always opt for less adventurous options like the garlic chicken tenders.
