Yes, Covid-19’s forcing us to stay indoors, work from home and practice social distancing. But that doesn’t mean we should be bored indoors. Many events have been postponed and cancelled, but fret not, we’ve found a great mix of things to do in April. These events are going virtual and creating online platforms so we don’t miss out. Plus, we’ve even got a couple of art exhibitions to check out. But remember to be socially responsible! You know the drill.

Asia’s 50 Best Bars will be going online this year, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Though there’s still a month till the ‘virtual’ awards ceremony on 14 May at 7pm, you can check out a series of special awards leading up to the main show. View Campari One To Watch (16 April), which supports a bar that’s currently not on the list but has potential to win a spot in upcoming years. Plus, the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award (23 April) will highlight a bar’s commitment to sustainable practices and Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award (30 April) will be given to a bar that’s known to provide exceptional service.

German Gastronomy at Gordon Grill

Experience a gastronomic journey of German cuisine at Gordon Grill. The menu features lesser known dishes from different Germanic regions with highlights such as black forest ham and brown mushroom ragout, Bavarian sauerkraut soup, and crispy Bavarian pork belly with dark beer, just to name a few. Trivia: The hotel, which was once known as the Teutonia Club, was an enclave for German expatriates in the 1900s.

Exhibition: Latiff Mohidin Pago Pago

This exhibition follows Malaysia’s leading modernist painter and poet, Latiff Mohidin, through his formative years in his practice from 1964 to 1969 where he journeys across British Malaya, to Europe and Southeast Asia. During this time, he challenged the dominance of Western modernism and pushed himself to explore different mediums to suit circumstances outside Europe and America. The result? You get to marvel at over 80 artworks, sketches, paintings, sculptures and rare photographs from the personal archives of Latiff Mohidin.
