This political play written by Robert Yeo – and considered to be one of the first of its kind in Singapore – travels with a group of university students in London around the time of Singapore’s independence. How will they get through young adulthood? Watch them as they tackle their political, social and sexual awakening. You’ll soon realise there are more similarities between the present climate and the past.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Two protagonists tell white lies to add some spice into their love lives. Jack creates an avatar called Ernest to run away from his dull country life and woo the girl of his dreams. On the other hand, his best friend, Algernon, changes his name to Ernest to impress Jack’s pretty ward, Cecily. The show turns into a riot of fun when both identities are uncovered. Theatre and film director, Glen Goei, puts an interesting spin on Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy by casting an all-male ensemble.

The Son

Lady of the Camellias

Witness the most romantic ballet event of the year, as John Neumeier’s award-winning Lady of the Camellias finally makes its Singapore debut. Accompanied by Frederic Chopin’s soothing piano music by the Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, the performance will feature some of the most outstanding pas de deux in 20th-century ballet. A perfect post-Valentine’s Day date idea, if you ask us!

Berak by Teater Ekamatra

This intriguing plot follows the life of a grandmother who, after her son’s suicide, instils in her granddaughter that death is just a joke and shares her fantasies of purgatory and the underworld. However, things take a turn for the worse when her granddaughter is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The play is adapted by Zulfadli Rashid, written by Chong Tze Chien and directed by Mohd Fared Jainal; it will be in Malay with English surtitles.

National Theatre’s War Horse

Trivia: This play has been watched by over eight million people worldwide. It’s no surprise since War Horse has received over 25 awards, including a Tony for Best Play on Broadway. It follows the sweet relationship between a young boy, Albert, and his horse, Joey, who are separated because of the war. Though he’s too young to enlist, young Albert embarks on a dangerous journey to bring Joey home. Will they reunite or not? No spoilers, please!
