If don’t have it in you to drive across the border, head on down to Town Restaurant at The Fullerton. Feast at the Johor Palace Delicacies buffet for lunch and dinner from the 17-27 September 2013. Bringing together the best local delights from Johor, enjoy dishes like Nasi Briyani (spiced rice with saffron and mixed ingredients), Ayam Masak Opor (spiced chicken stew with coconut milk), and much more. There will also be ‘live’ stations where chefs prepare Laksa Johor (spicy rice noodles in coconut milk broth) and Mee Bandung (noodles n spicy prawn gravy), plus a carving station with roasted lamb and chicken. End off with an array of traditional desserts like ice kacang (shaved ice with mixed ingredients) and an assortment of kueh!

They’ll be hosting a special promotion called ‘Hawker Heritage – The Next Chapter’ where 9 young hawkers from 6 eateries will present local hawker dishes alongside the dinner buffet on these two nights only. You can expect traditional hawker dishes like rojak, bak kut teh, popiah and kueh pi tee, as well as local beverages like Milo Dinosaur, teh tarik, and grass jelly with soya bean milk. There’ll also be a photo exhibition depicting old hawkers, an autograph session, as well as a talk about the history of hawker centres in Singapore.

Back by popular demand, Mikuni is celebrating Matsutake mushroom season from the 15 September to 15 October 2013. Enjoy the matsutake mushroom ‘surinagashi’, a concentrated flavoured soup of matsutake, enoki, and shitake mushrooms, or the Kagoshima wagyu sukiyaki with matsumake, from the ala carte menu. Alternatively, opt for the matsutake seven course dinner tasting menu, where you can look forward to creations like the ‘modori katsuo tataki’ that’s interlaced with slivers of matsutake mushroom and drizzled with a black truffle mushroom soy dressing. Dishes from the matsutake mushroom ala carte menu start from $38++, a lunch bento set is available at $150++, but for the real deal, check out the tasting menu priced at $220++ per person, or $320++ per person with sake pairing.
