Sure Singapore has a damn good cocktail scene, but if single malts, bourbon and Japanese whiskies whet your palate and nothing comforts you more than intense peatiness, the city has its fair share of whiskey specialists too. If you’re a novice who wants to develop an appreciation for whiskey regions and flavour profiles, we’re here for you. Read on for the best spots to sip on a dram…
The Whiskey Library at Club Vagabond
Set within the plush and eccentric Vagabond Hotel – think gold statuary, lashings of velvet and maximalist art – The Whiskey Library is a fittingly decadent bar-slash-club, and home to more than 1,000 bottles from around the world. Once ensconced, you can order from the voluptuous menu, take a tour through one of several whiskey flights, or put your evening in bartender Shah’s more than capable hands. The Whiskey Library offers annual memberships comprising room nights and whiskey lockers, or you can just saunter in when the need for a dram or three presents.
Side note: this is probably the most well-catered library we’ve visited, with bar bites including a to-die-for Reuben sandwich and a sumptuous portobello mushroom risotto take on an arancino.

We do love a bar within a shophouse, and this one is particularly welcoming for whiskey lovers of all levels. After some education? The menu offers a simple flavour profile chart with recommendations of classic drams, as well as a map of Scotland’s main whiskey areas. Delve deeper into the menu, and you’ll find a comprehensive collection of whiskies (organised by country) hailing from famed Scottish distilleries to emerging names in Sweden and Taiwan. The Wall also offers a selection of Japanese-styled sumiyaki (charcoal-grilled) dishes.
