Christmas without twinkly lights and sparkly decorations is like a New Year’s celebration without fireworks. In Singapore, Christmas is a rather grand affair, with streets already adorned with glittering decor even before the crowds hit the stores (think mid-November!) for gift-shopping. So don’t let the year-end stress cast a shadow on your festive spirit; just take a stroll down these places, which are bound to put a smile on your face!

Orchard Road

When: 16 Nov 2019 – 1 Jan 2020

This year, the iconic Christmas light-up will stretch all the way from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura. Decorated to the theme of “The Greatest Gift”, the shopping street will be embellished in classic Christmas motifs like presents, Santa Claus and fir trees, alongside twinkling, sparkling lights. Don’t forget to check out the Great Christmas Village, which is spread out in three locations this time: *Scape, Shaw House Urban Plaza and the open-air carpark at Grange Road.

Gardens by the Bay

When: 29 Nov – 26 Dec 2019

The annual Christmas Wonderland has always been a must-visit during the holiday season, what with its stunning light displays and magnificent structures. On top of picture-worthy backdrops, there’ll be carnival rides, Christmas parades, musical performances and a chance to experience “snowfall” amidst all that Yuletide glamour.

Universal Studios Singapore

When: 2 Dec 2019 – 1 Jan 2020

Now that Halloween Horror Nights is over, USS gets dressed up in all things holly and jolly. Part of the festivities, The Great Christmas Invention will be lit (literally) with superb lighting displays, mesmerising 3D projections and special effects. And let’s not forget the OTT fireworks!

Sentosa Cove

When: 16 Nov – 31 Dec 2019

Sentosa is putting a tropical spin on Christmas with its Island Lights display. Curated by design studio Space Objekt, these installations are interactive and Instagram-worthy, with highlights such as “Candy Quartz” by Tina Fung and Reza Hasni, which simulates a colourful see-saw.
