We’ve shared our love for fried chicken before but one dish that doesn’t get enough love? Roast chicken. This underrated dish and healthier alternative usually shines during Thanksgiving or Christmas feasts but it’s also great for your usual potlucks, parties. And if you’re going solo, it’s an easy protein option for meal prepping or a great topping for your salad. What makes a good roast chicken? It’s the crispy skin, tender and juicy meat and stand-out flavour for us! Vegetarians and vegans, look away! We’re going on a hunt to find amazing roast chicken in Singapore.
Kemono Chicken

This place is technically not a restaurant but it deserves a high ranking on our list. Kemono offers Japanese-style roast chicken (from $22.90) right to your doorstep – all the way till midnight! Crispy skin usually comes with dry meat but that’s not the case here. Thanks to a traditional slow-roasting technique and a century-old recipe that dates back to the Meiji Era in Japan, you get a perfect balance. We hear their cafe-free chickens come from certified organic farms and are treated to Mozart’s music to reduce stress and anxiety levels. Oh, and we’re absolutely here for the kooky marketing style, themed delivery options with islandwide delivery and monthly $1000 giveaway.

Chico Loco

The name says it all – one bite and you’ll go absolutely loco. This Mexican chicken joint serves up guilt-free comfort food where you’re encouraged to drop the cutlery, use your hands and get messy. The spit-roasted chicken ($32, whole chicken) is packed with flavour. After all, the chickens are brined for 10 hours in an umami solution, basted with a secret house blend of 11 herbs and finally roasted in an open flame for an hour before it lands on your table. The result? Juicy and tender chicken with a hint of smokiness. The best part is that all birds come from local and ethical farmed just 40 minutes outside of Singapore and are cage, hormone and antibiotic-free.

OverEasy

This American diner seamlessly takes you from after-work drinks to Sunday brunch in a heartbeat. The signature beer can chicken ($58) is – first of all – totally IG-worthy and great for bigger groups. The chicken is brined overnight before being roasted upright with a can of Budweiser beer.

Poulet

Hands up if Poulet was your makeshift date night meal during your adolescent days. Years later, Poulet is still a cut above the rest, serving lip-smacking French roast chicken ($33) with a choice of three delish sauces. You gotta have it with the truffle mash potato.

Oxwell & Co
Oxwell & Co is almost synonymous with Sunday roast and while many order the beef or lamb, the herb roasted spring chicken ($24) is also a must-have. Plus, it goes well with all the sides including roast potatoes, honey glazed carrots and Yorkshire pudding.

Summer Hill

East-siders, if there’s one spot to satisfy your chicken cravings, it’s Summer Hill. Yes, most of us go for the indulgent fried chicken but the 24-hour brined roast chicken ($32) served with herb butter, gravy and a side of the day (try the duck fat roasted potatoes!), definitely hits all the right spots. The portion is big enough to share among two to three people. Summer Hill also offers delivery on selected weekends and holidays.
