We have stayed in more villas than we can remember. But there is something about this Batu Belig villa that has won our hearts.
Let’s start by saying we are officially interior junkies (we have a badge declaring it), so the fact that this is one of the most stylish villas we have seen in Bali means we have fallen head over heels for this one. We also like value for money, and this villa is amazingly well priced (for now anyway!)
This group of three boutique villas are nested together with the owners living nearby. Both designers and creative at heart, the owners designed and managed the construction of the 2 brand new villas (and they may just have found their calling).
The first thing you notice when you walk into the villas is the striking patterned tiles on the floor and on the open concept kitchen splash back. Swoon. Next you will notice the light colours and whitewashed wood – a refreshing change from the traditional Balinese style of dark wood furniture. We guarantee by the time you take in the open style architecture, Balinese thatching, intricate whitewashed doors, archways, window finishing, and the stunning artworks – all by local designers, no less – you will be 100% smitten.
Of course the luxuries haven’t been forgotten. We loved the beautifully arranged fresh flowers, the organic coconut hand soap, the huge bathtubs in each bathroom, and the crisp white sheets of a new villa. We also loved knowing the owners were just two doors away, and could help us out with transfers, toy boxes (which were officially a life saver), local tips, and even membership to the local Canggu Club for the duration of our stay.
We stayed in the 3 bedroom villa, which had a main bedroom connected to a twin bedroom and a free-standing one bedroom bungalow. The second villa is a two bedroom villa; both villas have a fully functioning kitchen and a stunning sandstone tiled pool.
The locale is Batu Belig, which is the up-and-coming neighbourhood between Seminyak and Canggu. The property is a short walk from the delicious Watercress café, which does famous salads, juices, and coffees and Naughty Nuri’s, the famous local BBQ rib joint (you can smell it a mile away). The beach is also about 10 minutes away on foot, or 2 minutes on bike.
A perfect spot for a long weekend, this villa gets our designer pick of the month!
