It’s time to party and let your hair down when the 2013 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix roars into town from 20 to 22 September. Between 1 World Music Festival (we’re official media sponsors!) and the official F1 entertainment headliners, this year’s lineup is hella awesome!
While the drivers jostle for pole position on the race tracks, check out the riveting performances off track for a dose of high octane entertainment. Can’t decide who to see? We’ve put together a handy list with acts categorized by genre so no matter your music preference, we’ve got you covered.
Pop
Say annyeonghaseyo to K-Pop superband Big Bang, who are back for a third time after two sold-out shows. Led by the charismatic G-Dragon, they’re set to raise temperatures with their hot bods and slick dance moves. Fans can look forward to a high energy show featuring their hit singles “Lies”, “Last Farewell”, and “Haru Haru”.
Shut up and drive – that’s what the F1 drivers will be busy doing before the bad girl of pop Rihanna takes to the Padang stage post-race. Having dominated charts around the world with hits such as “We Found Love”, “The Only Girl In The World”, and “Diamonds”, expect an explosive show from this red hot superstar.
Calling all Beliebers! You’re in for a treat because Justin Bieber will be closing the F1 festivities on 23 September. Let the multi-platinum selling teen pop sensation serenade you with hits like “Baby”, “Boyfriend” and “Somebody to Love.” Do note that this is a separately ticketed concert, so click here for details.
Rock
Performing here for the first time, American rock band The Killers will blow you away with their brand of danceable glam rock. Since bursting onto the music scene in 2004 with their debut Hot Fuss, they’ve since sold over 20 million albums worldwide. Rock out to hits like “Somebody Told Me”, “Human”, and “When We Were Young”.
It’s the Singapore F1 after all so let’s give it up for our very own homegrown rockers The Great Spy Experiment! Armed with sharp riffs, catchy hooks, and smart melodies, they’ll show you why they’re one of the best local bands around.
Dance
Lose yourself in the electronic beats of British dance duo Orbital when they take the stage at 1 World. Any dance music fan worth their salt would have committed their classic anthems “Chime”, “Omen”, and “Halcyon + On + On” to memory. Get ready because it’s going to be one amazing rave.
Relive the glory days of 90s dance music when Moby unleashes his experimental techno in this highly anticipated show. Expect to see him perform tracks such as “Porcelain” and “Natural Blues” from his hugely successful 1998 album Play that catapulted him to worldwide fame.
Hip Hop/Rap
All bow down to the granddaddy of hip hop Snoop Dogg! With 12 studio albums under his belt, fans can look forward to grooving to the Doggfather’s classics like “What’s My Name” and “Gin & Juice”.
Having infiltrated our ears with their 2010 monster hit “Like A G6”, Far East Movement are bringing their street swagger to our shores. With their loud irreverent party anthems, the Los Angeles quartet’s set promises to be loads of fun.
Last but not least is rising Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea, whose controversial songs “Pussy” and ‘Two Times” have gone viral on YouTube. Having made audiences sit up with her bold, fiercely independent tunes, this sassy lady is all set to ignite the stage this month.
