What’s cooking: Dining promotions, cheap food deals and new restaurants in Singapore

Granted, there’s tonnes to eat here in Singapore despite being an itsy bitsy dot on the map. We’re sure you can relate to the conundrum that plagues you every time you think about what you’re gonna eat today, so we started this new weekly round-up. From new dining promotions to cheap food deals, and revamped menus to the buzz on new restaurants, this is what’s cooking in Singapore this week.

Maggie Joan’s is being hijacked!

A hijacking’s gonna happen soon, but our appetites aren’t complaining! Alleyway resto, Maggie Joan’s at Amoy Street, will be handing the kitchen over to Mitch Orr, the fabled Prince of Pasta who helms the ACME restaurant in Sydney. Head down to Maggie Joan’s from the 16th to 18th of September to get a taste of Mitch’s handiwork – his Asia-inspired Italian fare includes the baloney sandwich with perfect milk buns, as well as the unique mix of macaroni and pig’s head, complete with an egg yolk on top.

Celebrate Morganfield’s birthday with a free slab of Sticky Bones

It’s ribs galore as Morganfield’s turns four!

If there’s one name that comes to mind when we think of BBQ baby-back ribs, Morganfield’s is it. The American restaurant is turning four, and it’s sending invitations out to everyone to celebrate! Be one of the first two hundred patrons in line at their new VivoCity outlet, and you’ll get a free half slab of their signature Hickory barbecued Sticky Bones with your order. But don’t fret if you aren’t one of the lucky ones; the restaurant is also offering their signature dish at a steal with two half slabs going for just $40 at all outlets.

The Alchemist Beer Lab

Swing by the first beer bar in Asia that does craft beer towers

Here’s a Hot New Bar at The South Beach that looks to elevate the beer tower experience, and it’s being pumped out by the team behind Little Island Brewing Co. at Changi Village. The Alchemist Beer Lab is all set to be Asia’s first and only “infusion beer lab”, and it’s not some horn-tooting proclamation that’s to be taken lightly. Check out all the hype in our feature.

Get to know the best restaurants along the Singapore River

We know our go-to restaurants when our tums get the rumbles, but what about our top local chefs? Renowned chefs, such as Bjorn Shen (Artichoke), Anthony Yeoh (Cocotte), Cheryl Koh (Tarte), and Nixon Low (Portico Prime), have selected 21 restaurants and their key dishes as winners of the Singapore River Signatures – an award that coincides with the Singapore River Festival. Tuck into Chef Yeoh’s recommendation of creamy tartiflette and maguro don by Ô Comptoir and Cho Omakase respectively, or Chef Koh’s pick of Brussels Sprouts’ steak tartare. And we know we can’t resist heading down for the Kaiju burger at Dojo after hearing Chef Shen rave about its savoury patty. Which one will be your favourite?

The Singapore River Festival will happen from November 4th to 5th. Do visit www.srf.sg for more details.

It’s only been two months since we gave this Scottish resto the thumbs up, and already, UsQuBa is upping the ante with its new Sunday brunch. Our two favourite B-words come together in Working Title’s brand new brunch menu. The Arab Street café’s got a brand new burger for brunch, and it comes packed with a grilled beef patty topped with turkey bacon, truffle scrambled eggs, crushed tater tots, caramelised onions, mild cheddar and a smoky barbecue sauce – talk about a brunch of champs! But if you prefer more traditional brunch offerings, opt for the Working Big Breakfast or the smoked salmon with asparagus and scrambled eggs.

Is Sunset Lane becoming the coolest food area in Singapore?

Next time somebody makes fun of you for living out in the ‘boondocks’ of Western Singapore, you’ll want to tell them about the foodie paradise that is Sunset Lane. What’s more, with three new restaurants opening (The Catch Seafood Restaurant & Bar, Angels N’ Cowboys, and Hoho Korean Restaurant), you’ll get to enjoy everything from pig stomach soup (which involves sewing a black chicken INSIDE a pig’s stomach) to Western favourites like baby back ribs and buffalo wings.

How about $10 on all draft beers and cocktails – including their Gin & Chronic, Pina Colada and assorted ciders and lagers. There’s now another place to satisfy your Antoinette cravings

We’re guilty ourselves – we instantly slip into drool mode when we simply think of Antoinette’s sinful salted egg yolk lava croissants and vanilla cheese tarts. Thankfully, there’s now another locale that lets us dodge the queues and get our cravings fixed. Market Place at Raffles City now stocks 10 new pastries from Antoinette – five of its gourmet croissants (think chilli crab and salted caramel) and five of its creamy cheese tarts range.
