Now serving: Breakfast and brunch at Lazy Susan

Is it any wonder that news coming from Spa Esprit Group gets us excited? These guys do the coolest things in Singapore, whether it’s a hippy farmer’s market at Open Farm Community, new life-changing pastries at Tiong Bahru Bakery, or a tongue-in-cheek campaign for waxing chain Strip. Coming up next for the local lifestyle giant is a new pop-up dining concept Lazy Susan, and we cannot wait to have a seat at the table. Here’s what you can expect:
Brunch and breakfast plates that are fun, atypical and delicious
Ok, we’ll admit that we’re jumping to conclusions with regards to taste, but Spa Esprit Group’s restaurants have a certain standard. The menu of about 18 to 20 dishes takes its cue from various places – from Asian breakfasts and hawker fare to café food and dim sum. Think har cheong kai (prawn paste chicken) and rice flour waffles served with sambal maple sauce, braised jackfruit sliders, stir-fry lotus root, and ricotta cheese and pickled mussels on sourdough bread – salivating yet?
It’ll first pop up at House at Dempsey
From 3 to 29 December 2015, Haan Palau Chang, a Chinese/Romanian cook as he calls himself, will take over House at Dempsey’s kitchen on Thursdays to Sundays. The lanky (and may we say yummy-looking) chef has an impressive CV, having worked around a number of critically acclaimed restaurants in the world, including one-Michelin-star places Kokkeriet and Kiin Kiin, plus Bar Isabel (Toronto), Fiskebar (Copenhagen), Saturne (Paris), Le Verre Vole (Paris), Le Mary Celeste (Paris) and Hero (Paris). His cuisine style is worldly and flavour-driven, inspired by different ethnic culinary traditions.
There’ll be more after him
It’s not called Lazy Susan just because the name’s cute. Like the revolving tray commonly seen at Chinese restaurants, Spa Esprit’s new pop-up dining concept is a travelling table with an Asian flair, with different guest chefs brought into restaurants in Singapore and perhaps the world. The next stop: at Open Door Policy – though no names have been confirmed at this point.
