Social Market at Open Farm Community

We may be living in a sea of skyscrapers, but – believe it or not – there’s a slice of country life in Singapore, and Open Farm Community’s (OFC) first-ever Social Market is a great reminder of that. The appetite-whetting event will see the OFC grounds transform into a bustling marketplace offering fresh produce and lots of gourmet grub. Besides bringing home bagsful of market goodies, you’ll also leave the Dempsey hotspot with newfound knowledge of your food (including the farmers who grow them), a well-filled belly, and aching muscles from the dancey good vibes. Excited? So are we. Have a gander at some of the great going-ons at this pop-up farmer’s market.
To market, to market!
Show some love to Singapore’s burgeoning farm scene by filling your kitchen with locally grown and sustainable produce like passionfruit, starfruit, eggplant, rocket and more offered at the market. Needless to say, freshness is guaranteed – you’ll be buying directly from the source after all. In addition to produce, stalls will also be peddling other natural products like honey, homemade jams (jackfruit and lap cheong (cured Chinese sausages) flavours, anyone?), and even potted plants for all you urban gardeners.
Hunger pangs, be gone
Grocery-shopping is hard work. To fuel up for the activities ahead, stop by the awesome-smelling stalls serving wholesome, delicious fare. Asia’s first gourmet food truck, The Kerbside Gourmet, is making an appearance with innovative dishes like the Aussy beetroot burger and the paleo-friendly cauliflower fried “rice”. Local delicatessen Casse-Croûte is also on-site with a selection of hams, sausages cold cuts, so you can put together a nice, meaty charcuterie board. Open Farm Community’s Executive Chef, Ryan Clift, and Head Chef, Daniele Sperindio, aren’t taking a break from the kitchen either: the duo will be dishing out rustic food that showcases freshly picked produce.
Work up a sweat
Keen to try spinning? You’re in luck! Crucyle is bringing in their wheels for those seeking a sweaty, adrenaline-pumping workout. Split into 10am and 4pm sessions, Crucycle will take you for a spin whether you’re a morn or arvo person. But if a spin session feels a little too intense for a weekend afternoon (we get it), lululemon’s outdoor yoga session at 3pm will help to clear your mind and boost flexibility.
Drink up
Of course, you can always count on the availability of booze! Look forward to the Tiki Takeover from 4pm ‘til late, where you’ll get to sip some refreshing tiki tipples (duh) and tuck into a host of tasty tapas after the market closes for the day. DJ X.G. will also be on the decks banging out farm beats, tropical tunes and a selection of feel-good tracks and disco jams. Kids are welcome! Though parents may want to keep an eye on their drinks…
