In celebration of SG50, Scotts Square collaborates with LASALLE College of the Arts to present “The Art of Celebration – Toy Legends” by Justin Lee, from 4 August to 31 August 2015.
Debuting at Scotts Square, “Toy Legends” is a creative spin on Singapore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations which pays tribute to the magnificent military displays at the annual National Day parades, through exuberant and dynamic action figures.
Created by awarding-winning pop artist, Justin Lee, the 0.75 metre tall figures are cast in fibreglass and moulded into mega sized toy figurines donning iconic Chinese terracotta warrior attires. By transforming the nostalgic miniature green toy soldiers, made popular in the ’60s, into mighty contemporary warrior sculptures, the installation is a tongue-in-cheek continuation of Justin’s signature “East meets West” juxtapositions.
