A dramatic story of infidelity, jealousy and revenge, set in Southern Italy in the aftermath of World War II.
A company of touring actors, led by Canio, invites the residents of a small town to the evening performance of their latest comedy, Pagliaccio. Canio has become suspicious of his wife Nedda after the jealous Tonio, who is in love and been rejected by her, tells him that he has seen her with an unknown lover. The unhappy Nedda, has secretly agreed to elope, after the evening performance, with her lover Silvio.
The evening’s comedy performance has a similar plot to real life. Will Canio be able to distinguish them apart? Or will he succumb to his suspicions?
Gianni Schicchi
The wealthy Buoso Donati has just died and his relatives have gathered to lament. Their hypocritical grief turns to anger when they discover he has left his considerable estate to charity. His grasping relatives decide to accept the advice of Rinuccio and ask Gianni Schicchi, a clever rogue and father of Rinuccio’s girlfriend Lauretta, to help them.
