Here, Kitty Kitty: Cat cafés in Singapore

Hello, kitty! (Image: Neko no Niwa by Furry Photos Pet Photography)

In the never-ending debate of ‘Cats versus Dogs: Which is better?‘, we at Honeycombers sits firmly in the feline camp. Well, for most of us anyway. Which is why in celebration of World Cat Day (yes, there is such a thing!) on 8 August, we’re giving you the lowdown on cafés in Singapore that houses the loveliest kitties for the most purr-fect experience ever.

P.S.: If you’re looking for places to bring your furry friends, check out our list of pet-friendly restaurants and hotels in Singapore.

Neko No Niwa

Neko No Niwa

Neko No Niwa

The one that started it all. Having set up shop in Boat Quay back in 2013, Neko No Niwa is the pioneer that sparked off a slew of copycats (pun intended). The cosy shophouse space houses a clowder of 13 adorable kitties – all lovingly rescued by owners Sue Lynn and Sam. We’re especially fond of brother-sister pair Kai Kai and Jia Jia, the mischievous tabbies with a penchant for stealing food and nibbling fingers when you’re not looking. Besides coffee and fruit smoothies, you can tuck into a spread of desserts like cakes and ice-cream sandwiches from The Ice Cream Cookie & Co. Read our full review of Neko No Niwa here.

Cover charge: $12 for first hour, $5 for subsequent half hour.

Neko No Niwa, 54A Boat Quay (Level 2), Singapore 049843, p. 6536 5319. Open Mon, Wed-Fri 11am-10pm, Sat, Sun & public holidays 10am-10pm. Closed on Tue.

The Company of Cats

The Company of Cats

It’s true what they say: everything’s better in the company of cats. Located in the Chinatown area, this cat café with a conscience is home to eight rescued cats, each with its own job title such as Meowketing Director and Business Development Meownager (too cute!). Our purr-sonal favourite is Elliot, the resident kitty Casanova. Watch out, ladies: he’s a heartbreaker.

Cover charge: $14 for first hour ($10 from Tue-Fri 12-4pm), $5 for subsequent half hour.

The Company of Cats, 6B Mosque Street (Level 2), Singapore 059486, p. 6220 3835. Open Tue-Fri 12-10pm, Sat-Sun 11am-10pm. Closed on Mon.

The Cat Café

The Cat Café

Bucking the trend of charging customers per hour, The Cat Café lets cat lovers indulge in kitty goodness for an unlimited time period for just $15. At 1,200 square foot, the roomy loft-like space in the heart of Bugis houses 15 to 20 felines, with special meal times during the day for customers to get in on feeding action.

The Cat Café, 241B Victoria Street, Singapore 188030, p. 6338 6815. Open Mon 3-10pm, Tue-Sun & public holidays 10am-10pm.

Meomi Cat Café

Meomi Cat Café

New to the scene is Meomi Cat Café, located in the Kampong Glam area. Small but inviting, it is the perfect hangout spot with plenty of comfy seating and kitty paraphernalia to amuse humans and four-legged critters alike for hours. Meomi’s collection of in-house cats is especially unique: be sure to look out Mario, the resident munchkin.

Cover charge: $13 for first hour, $5 for subsequent per half hour.

Meomi Cat Café, 668 North Bridge Road, Singapore 188801, p. 6296 0339. Open daily 11am-10pm.
