Up Close & Personal with TV's Georgina Wilson
Model, TV host, Instagram style star; the multi-hyphenated Georgina Wilson certainly wears many (stylish) hats. She can even add ‘entrepreneur’ to her résumé, as the co-founder of hip sunglasses label, Sunnies Studios. Recently in town for its online launch on Zalora, the Filipina-British beauty dished her top style tips and told us why she’s more than just a pretty face.
Sunnies Studios began…
out of a desire to start my own business. For the longest time, my best friends and I talked about it and sunglasses were the perfect way to get there. It was really important to us that we create something everyone can afford. That’s the beauty of shades: you can pay $20 for a pair and still look like a million bucks.
My role in the company…
is a little bit of everything! Apart from being the brand ambassador, I run the marketing division and do events, brand strategies, collaborations, funding, and even HR. When you have a company, anything and everything falls under your jurisdiction.
It wouldn’t have been possible…
for us to expand so quickly to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Vietnam without a powerhouse like ZALORA behind us. It’s a great opportunity for Sunnies Studios to get into the Southeast Asian market and they’ve helped us so much in understanding each of these countries.
I can’t tell you…
which is my favourite pair from Sunnies Studios. There are so many styles to love. But I’m a total cat-eye queen. That’s why Sunnies Studios has so many cat-eye styles like Anais, Nikka, and Dovie!
A girl should never leave home without…
perfume, a bright lippie, and of course, a great pair of sunnies. With these three, you can look and feel completely dressed up even if you took 20 seconds to get ready.
My top style tip…
is not to overthink it. Fashion isn’t that difficult and when you try too hard, it stops being fun. Just understand what looks good on your body and don’t be afraid to experiment.
The stigma of models being airheads…
makes no sense to me. It takes more than good looks to make it in the industry. To be a successful model these days, you need strategy, branding, good business sense, and to constantly be on your toes.
