Top spots to catch fireworks

Be dazzled by Singapore's gorgeous fireworks display on the Singapore Flyer

There’s something about fireworks that incites lots of oohs and ahhs, even from the hardest self-proclaimed unromantics. Thanks to the many cool rooftop bars and swanky alfresco spots in Singapore, getting front-row seats to see spectacular pyrotechnic displays during major events isn’t all that difficult. Here, we rounded up the best lookouts in the city that provides a perfect view, and then some.

Supertree by Indochine

Sitting atop the tallest structure at Gardens by the Bay, SuperTree offers a wonderful 360-degree view of the South China Sea and Singapore’s CBD skyline. OverEasy

Front row seats to the fireworks display with a side of mouthwatering burgers? Yes, please! Besides the killer views, OverEasy’s grub is the other thing that keeps us coming back for more. Menu highlights include the truffle burger (this American staple features wagyu beef mince slathered with house-infused truffle mayonnaise, a cheese blend of red milk cheddar, emmental and parmesan, sautéed onions and mushrooms inside a grilled brioche bun), and the Mac & Cheeks, which uses Australian beef cheeks.

CÉ LA VI’s awesome view

1-Altitude

It should come as no surprise that the city’s tallest bar delivers one of the best views of the fireworks. Elevate yourself up and away from the bustle of the CBD at 1-Altitude. Standing at 282-metre above sea level, this three-in-one venue houses a fully alfresco bar (that’s 1-altitude), award-winning restaurant Stellar, and dance club Altimate.

Orgo

Located on Esplanade’s spacious roof terrace overlooking the bay, Orgo offers an unobstructed view of the celebratory pyrotechnics. Renowned Japanese mixologist Tomoyuki Kitazoe leads the fine drinking joint, and only uses fresh ingredients (read: no liqueurs and syrups) for his list of adventurous martinis, including a wasabi salt chocolate martini and a dragon fruit and vanilla concoction.
Orgo, Roof Terrace, #04-01 Esplanade, 8 Raffles Ave, Singapore 039802, p. 6336 9366.

Empire

Overlooking the Central Business District is the spiffy penthouse lounge known as Empire. Standing at 45 stories high, the swish premises offers jaw-dropping view of the fireworks at their outdoor platform.

Esplanade Waterfront

This 300m long waterfront is the perfect place to catch the fireworks – and you don’t even have to fork out a single cent! Head early to score yourself a good spot; the waterfront gets real crowded during National Day Parade and New Year’s Eve.
Esplanade Waterfront, 1 Esplanade Drive, Singapore 038981, p. 6828 8377.

Lantern

Swish rooftop bar and tapas restaurant Lantern is the place to be if you want knock-out views of the fireworks. Mains like seared black cod and steak and frites are to be had, but if you prefer, go for light bites like the popular mini wagyu beef sliders. Head there before 8pm to also catch Marina Bay Sand’s spiffy laser light shows from your seat.
Lantern, The Fullerton Bay Hotel, 80 Collyer Quay Singapore 049326, p. 6597 5299.

Marina Barrage, 8 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018951.

Southbridge

Oysters, alcohol, and a remarkable view of the fireworks: Best. Combo. Ever. If you’re like us, be sure to hit up Southbridge. The bar, which overlooks the Singapore River, knows a thing or two about umami with its show-stopping creations like the Pearls (grilled oysters with white wine sauce and avruga caviar), lobster knuckle roll, and truffle and smoked pancetta sandwich.
