Edible Garden City Project

OK so here’s what we all know: we have little land, we import tons of stuff, and we think Singapore’s the safest place in the world – even when it comes to our food.

Now get ready for the surprising news: Edible Garden City Project can and will grow the good stuff right in the hearts of our concrete jungles. Those pretty gardens? These experts will turn them into productive plots of harvest-producing land.

Edible Gardens was set up by 3 eco-heroes who are behind the “Growing Your Own Food” movement in Singapore. These social entrepreneurs have at least 10 years of experience on their hands and awards for their designs and construction under their belt. Impressive!

Edible Gardens is quickly winning hearts with their community-centered initiatives and green thumbs. They’ve been around the block and popped up in Bishan and Holland Village, but we are bowled over by their work at the always inspiring Artichoke/ overdoughs (Sculpture Square). Fresh corn, chilli, herbs, edible flowers, and tomatoes grown right in the heart of town – and literally at arm’s length from your table? We’re down with that.

There’s a lot of hard work in what they do – surprisingly, a vegetable that flourishes in the East can fare pretty poorly in the West, and this is where Edible Gardens shows their chops. They’ve got a huge arsenal of knowledge up their sleeves! We’ve also heard talk of them trying to farm their own bees for honey – a respectably ambitious plan we’re waiting to hear more about.

Those who follow the organic movement will be happy to know that it’s all natural farming methods here, so it’s better for your body and the environment. And ultimately, all these guys want to do is educate us city folk on sustainable farming, fresh produce, and have fun with food. Let’s hear a big schmawww for these guys.

Looking for a taste of their prowess? You’re in luck. Edible Gardens has teamed up with several restaurants so that everyone can have a taste of the good stuff fresh from each resto’s backyard:
