The Volvo XC90 is one of Singapore’s top-selling SUVs, and for good reason. It’s handsome, safe, friendly-to-drive, comfortable, and endowed with a luxury of space. If there’s a car that’ll make you feel like the king of the road while lulling your passengers to sleep, this is it. Here’s why we totally heart this joy ride.
It’s quite the looker
So we’re being superficial here, but really, who isn’t? With its blunt snout, prominent headlights, big grille, a high hoodline, and a heavily shouldered back that rivals a Range Rover, the Volvo XC90 – looks pretty badass – rather than mumsy.
It’s powerful
Made entirely of aluminum, the in-line five-cylinder 2.5-litre petrol engine features a light-pressure turbocharger of 210bhp in power output, and 320 Nm of torque. With low internal friction, efficient combustion and advanced exhaust filtration technology, the XC90 boasts low emissions to the environment. Plus, the electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive System provides great driver control with improved take-off speed and enhanced stability to prevent understeer or oversteer.
Interiors are plush and ergonomic
The theatre-style seats are covered in fine soft leather and designed under the advice of orthopaedic surgeons. Of course, the big first-class armchairs are up front, but the seats behind boast just as much comfort — perfect for long drives with restless kids in tow. The sunroof, one of our favourite features, sure makes sitting in the XC90 feel extra spacious.
Most importantly, it’s massively safe
The American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) ranked the Volvo XC90 as one of the safest cars on the market, naming it the 2014 Top Safety Pick. The car comes fitted with advanced safety systems – Whiplash Protection System, Side Impact Protect System, Roll-over Protection System, to name a few – to minimise the risk of injuries should an accident happen. The strong exterior is also designed to distribute and absorb incoming collision forces so that the people in the car remain as safe as possible. A gently rounded front and an extra beam below the front bumper help reduce the risk of injury to other road users.
You don’t have to own it to drive it
We get it: cars are ridiculously expensive in the city, so premium car distributor Wearnes Automotive’s exclusive leasing promotion on the XC90 (from $3,500 a month) is a big draw in our books. Contact Wearnes Leasing Consultants at 6876 5063 or wearnes.leasing@wearnes.com for more information. But hurry, there are only 10 of the XC90 run-out units left!
