Carb loading or booze bingeing – fries rank right up there on our list of comfort food. We know it’s indulgent, so to really make those calories count, we’ve put together our list of time-honoured, team-tested spots for the best fries in Singapore.

Have a lead on another place we need to hit up? Comment below and tell us where we should go!

House
We get it – downing a plate full of fries can sometimes seem a bit of an overkill, so if you need to feel better about your midday spuds, the menu at House can fool you into thinking you’re actually having something healthy. Let’s hear a resounding cheer for pumpkin hazelnut fries, carrot fennel fries, truffle taro fries, and curry mustard fries. Seriously delish.
House, 8D Dempsey Road, Singapore 249672, p. 6475 7787. Open Mon-Thu 12-11pm, Fri 12pm-12am, Sat 11am-12am, Sun 9am-11pm.

The House of Robert Timms
Total budget find – and way tastier than any $15 platter of fries, trust us. Order their waffle criss cut fries – made to order – which ring in under $10, come in a tall glass vase, and have the perfect crunchy exterior to fluffy interior ratio down pat. The interiors are nothing to write home about, but the waffle fries alone are worth a visit. We much prefer their Wheelock flagship restaurant.
The House of Robert Timms, Wheelock Place, 501 Orchard Road, #01-02, Singapore 238880, Sun-Thu 8am-1030pm, Fri-Sat and eve of PH 8am-3am.

Les Bouchons
Go for gold with an unlimited flow of homemade fries at Les Bouchons Served alongside their classic dishes, these twice fried in duck fat fries aren’t for the faint-hearted (especially when they’re so good and free flow!), but they’re an awesome heartstopping treat. Psst – make sure to order their steak too, they’re well-priced and super tasty.
Les Bouchons, 7 Ann Siang Road, 069689, p. 6423 0737, Mon-Fri 12pm-2pm and 7pm-10pm, Sat 7pm-10pm.

PS. Café
Fans of truffles can’t be officiated until they’ve given the truffle fries here a spin. The Truffle Oil Skinny Fries and Truffle Shoestring Fries are served in a heaping mound and are a fave among truffle fries fans – but our team has had some internal disagreements on this. If you like a hard-hitting truffle taste, look elsewhere.
PS. Café @ Harding: 28B Harding Road, Singapore 249549, p. 9070 8782.
PS. Café @ Palais Renaissance: Level 2, 390 Orchard Road, Singapore 238871, p. 9834 8232.
PS. Café @ Paragon Shopping Centre: Level 3, 290 Orchard Road, Singapore 238859, p. 9297 7008
PS. Café @ A.S.H. Park: 45 Ann Siang Road, Singapore 069719, p. 9797 0648.
PS. Café Petit: No. 41, Blk 78 Guan Chuan Street, Singapore 160078, p. 9226 7088.

The Factory
This is a true hidden gem. Tucked away in little ol’ Kovan, the guys at The Factory cook up some artisanal dips that you won’t find elsewhere to go with their huge portions of either handcut fat fries or shoestrings. We love their chilli crab dip, but give their laksa pesto with roasted cashew, smoked cheddar and blue cheese, and marmite honey aioli a spin. Worth every calorie!
The Factory, 22 Lim Tua Tow Road (behind the post office), Singapore 547772, p. 6283 7680, Mon-Thu 1pm-10pm, Fri 1pm-11pm, Sat 11am-11pm, Sun 11am-10pm.

Omakase Burger
You can’t go wrong with this one – Omakase serves up four kinds of fries to go with their burgers. Do it the old fashioned way with french fries, attempt to keep it healthy with sweet potato fries, indulge with cheese fries, or really go OTT with their truffle fries. Our heart belongs to the sweet potato fries this round.
Omakase, 200 Turf Club Road, #01-05, Singapore 287994, p. 6763 2698, Mon-Thu 1130am-330pm and 530pm-930pm, Fri-Sun 11am-10pm.

Loof
Had a rough day in the office? Nothing better than a stiff drink and hot food to calm your nerves. Loof does a mean rendition of cheese fries by upping the notch – chilli cheese fries, anyone? If you’re passing we’ll gladly take on the challenge!
Loof, Odeon Towers Extension Rooftop, 331 North Bridge Road, #03-07, Singapore 188720, p. 6338 8035, Mon-Thu 5pm-1am, Fri-Sat and eve of PH 5pm-3pm.

Brewerkz
If you’re boozing in the Clarke Quay vicinity, head to Brewerkz for a cold beer (or three). Wait half an hour and you’ll be ready to order up a bowl of herb garlic fries. Wait another 15 and place your next order for sweet potato fries and truffle fries. Voila – your boozy escapade is now complete.
Brewerkz, Riverside Point: 30 Merchant Road, #01-05/06, Singapore 058282, p. 6438 7438, Mon-Thu 12pm-12am, Fri-Sat and PH 12pm-1am, Sun 12pm-12am.

Au Chocolat
If you’re feeling peckish while checking out their handmade chocolate, take a seat and order up a cone of their truffle fries like we did. This treat is seasoned with truffle sea salt and comes with mayo and BBQ sauce on the side.  Perfect for a post-show late night snack!
Au Chocolat,The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands: 2 Bayfront Avenue, #01-03, Singapore 018972, p. 6688 7227, Sun-Thu 10am-11pm, Fri- Sat 10am-12am.
