Attention Adventurers

Running out of ideas of where to bring the kids for the June holidays? Sentosa’s got you covered for a day-long trip!

Sentosa 4D AdventureLand has just gotten an upgrade from its old Pirates ride. It has revamped itself with an all-star cast, an interactive shooting game, and a rollercoaster simulator.

Now it’s definitely not going to set your hearts aflutter with excitement, but for the young ‘uns, this will probably be a day of endless cowboy shootouts and bumping around in the Himalamazon (more on this fictitious place later).

The star attraction is the new Journey 2: The Mysterious Island ride. It takes over the previous Pirates ride and has a few new upgrades to it. The whole ride is basically a 4D experience of the original movie squeezed into a 15-minute adventure. It’s a quick ride but the 4D effects bring it to a whole new dimension. You’ll get a little wet, bumped around, and have wind blown in your faces. (We heard a few adults squealing in fright during the ride.) An added bonus? Catching Dwayne Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens, and Josh Hutcherson in the ride as well.

Head over to the next attraction, the Extreme Log Ride. One of the two new additions to the 4D Adventureland, grown-ups aren’t going to be thrilled by this one, but kids, especially those who have never been on a rollercoaster, will be begging for more after. The rollercoaster simulator takes place in the fictional land of the Himalamazon, famed for its 75 different types of trees. Your journey begins on the logging experience of one of these trees, and you find yourselves being tossed around in a rollercoaster cabin without the all-important G-force. A thrill for the tiny tots, but a letdown for the adults.

The most interactive, and our favourite of the three, Desperados is an interactive shoot-out game. Mums, don’t come wearing a skirt! You’ll be sitting horseback throughout the game and if your motion-sensor pistol picks up your sharp-shooting skills, you could be featured on their hall of fame. Give littlies the thrill of their life if they’re featured on the big screen as the game’s best shooter.

Fair warning: AdventureLand is more for the kids and not so much for us adults, but survive a day with tots in tow and you’ll be a hero yourself.
