Fashion has its oddities. While we’re still trying to get our heads around the fact that divesuit material (neoprene) landed on the runways a while back, this trend we can at least get onboard with.
Meet perspex, a clear, acrylic-like material that looks dainty but can take a knock and a half. We like it especially in neon pops dangling from our arms (move over, boys), but when done right clear footwear is pretty cute too.
Whizkid Wang (that’s Alexander Wang) wowed us all when he sent models down the runway in dresses with strategic cut-outs held together by fishing line (yes really, though specially designed), and since then designers have followed suit with their own renditions. We like this Three Floor Sheer Tease Dress that is va-va-voom sexy while still working the classy lady thing (USD360). It’s no perspex – but trust us when we say this isn’t a material you want to wear.
H&M has put out a super cute lucite-like necklace that we adore (SGD17.90). That pop of coral is perfection. Speaking of coral, we’re also digging these Sophia Webster Daria Leather & PVC Slingbacks (USD435). That colour, the signature polkda-dots, the metallic leather and perspex – this is bang on trend, guys. For a classic nighttime look, we like these Gianvito Rossi Metallic Leather & PVC Pumps (USD587).
Zara’s put out a great range of budget-friendly accessories, like this Neon Box Clutch in pink that rings in under $60! For a signature Honeycombers look, we like this Neon Minaudiere in Orange (SGD59.90). Need something roomier and hands-free? Trust Marc to have you covered with this Marc by Marc Jacobs Clearly Top Handle in Flame Scarlet (price unavailable).
If you’re caught up in a perspex storm, bring it on holiday! TOPSHOP has put out a fluro plastic make-up bag for an extra bit of cheer, while these HUEY2 Gladiator Jelly Sandals are more functional than regular flip-flops and even have some sparkle in them (SGD49).
